Plot Summary of the Entire Series of the TV Drama "Canghai":

The 2009 military-themed TV drama "Canghai" consists of 48 episodes in total. The drama tells the history of the growth of China's modern navy, from the Jinma Campaign in the 1950s to this year's Somali escort fleet, spanning a period of 60 years.

Summary of the plot of "Canghai":

In September 1949, the Liaoshen, Huaihai, and Pingjin campaigns were victorious, and the remnants of the Nationalist forces retreated to Jinma Island. A part of the Third Field Army advanced south of the Yangtze River. Wang Benli, the commander of the third battalion of the Red Sixth Regiment, and Political Commissar Li ShanKui received orders to prepare for an amphibious landing operation but unexpectedly suffered a crushing defeat. Li Shangkui was martyred, and Wang Benli renamed himself "Wang Shankui" in memory of him.

The failure of the "Kinmen Sea Battle" made the top leadership of the new China determined to strengthen the Chinese Navy. After the victory of the Korean War, Wang Shankui returned to the Red Sea and joined the Navy, marrying Dr. Xu Jinyun.

Wang Shankui devoted himself to studying naval tactics and accidentally fought a brilliant sea battle that brought him fame. However, double doctorate Ma Jiancheng looked down on him with disdain. During the construction of the Very Low Frequency station, Soviet assistance was withdrawn halfway through. Wang Shankui strongly recommended Ma Jiancheng as the chief engineer and unexpectedly learned that Ma Jiancheng was his wife's first love.

The Very Low Frequency station test failed repeatedly, and Ma Jiancheng fled. Later, Wang Shankui and Political Commissar Lu Xinquan persuaded Ma Jiancheng to return despite opposition. Ma Jiancheng risked his life to try one last time, and the Very Low Frequency station was finally successfully developed.

Lu Xinquan accidentally learned that Li Shangkui had survived in the past. Li requested that Lu keep it a secret and hoped that his son Li Qiang would serve in the Navy in the future.

More than ten years later, Wang Shankui’s son Wang Haijun wanted to take the college entrance exam, but Wang Shankui insisted that his son join the army. Unable to reach an agreement, Wang Shankui angrily sent his son to serve as a cook on a supply ship. Ma Jiancheng finally agreed to become the director of the No. 509 Institute, but on the condition of sending Wang Haijun to take the college entrance exam, which Wang Shankui refused.

Ma Jiancheng's report on "Information Platform Construction" conflicted with the issue of "solving employee housing problems." The arrogant Ma Jiancheng stormed off to the supply ship and coincidentally met Wang Haijun, encouraging him to have lofty ideals.

Wang Haijun wanted to leave the military, leading to a fierce conflict between father and son. Wang Shankui felt lonely and shed tears thinking of Li Shangkui. Seeing his father cry for the first time, Wang Haijun decided to stay. However, he played dirty tricks during a military exercise and was sentenced to forty days of solitary confinement.

Unexpectedly, solitary confinement changed Wang Haijun's life forever, and his academic performance improved rapidly. The usually arrogant Ma Jiancheng finally put aside his pride and sought help from Political Commissar Lu to secure 30 million yuan in funding.

Li Qiang was admitted to the Naval Vessel Academy but was replaced by Lu Xinquan's son Lu Xiangdong. Lu personally apologized at home, and Li Shangkui passed away peacefully with a smile. Wang Haijun, Li Qiang, and Lu Xiangdong became famous as the three musketeers of the Naval Vessel Academy.

Despite his father's opposition, Lu Xiangdong went into business, while Wang Haijun and Li Qiang were assigned to the No. 159 ship after graduation. Later, Wang Haijun furthered his studies at the Guangzhou Naval Vessel Academy and went to work on the toughest South China Sea minesweeper after graduation, marrying Ma Yujia, Ma Jiancheng's daughter.

At this point, Ma Jiancheng was already in the late stages of lung cancer. The simulation of the information platform entered a critical stage, and a strong sense of mission extended Ma Jiancheng's miracle of life.

In 1990, Wang Haijun and Li Qiang served as captain and political commissar respectively, conducting trial voyages for the domestically produced No. 159 vessel after modifications and practically testing various performances of the No. 159. The trial voyage was a great success, and Ma Jiancheng passed away peacefully at his post upon hearing the good news.

Lu Xiangdong returned to invest in the Red Sea and helped Li Meihua righteously, alarming the police. After understanding the whole story, the estrangement between father and son finally disappeared.

In 1995, Wang Shankui retired after a lifetime of military service.

In the new century, maritime defense has become more important. Wang Haijun and Li Qiang participated in the largest-scale deterrent military exercise in the history of the Navy, "Changjian No. 1." A fire broke out in the boiler room, and Li Qiang was seriously injured while saving his comrades-in-arms. It was then that Wang Shankui learned about Li Qiang's background.

As an expert in China's maritime rights and interests, Ma Yujia was invited to give a speech at the Boao Asia Forum, receiving enthusiastic praise. Wang Haijun achieved excellent results in both theory and practice, receiving commendations from the Military Commission and the Navy Headquarters. In 2007, he was ordered to lead the fleet in participating in a multi-national joint military exercise, showcasing our navy's strength and national image perfectly and earning respect from all participating countries.
