The bond between China and Hong Kong, bearing fruit

More than ten years ago, Junjie moved in with his long-widowed mother Meiping when she married Zhong Guocheng. Guocheng had been divorced for many years, and his ex-wife had left Hong Kong with their young daughter Zhi Xin, gradually fading from contact. The union of Guocheng and Meiping brought together two single-parent families, making Junjie gain an unrelated older brother named Zhi Rong. Despite being from different mothers and fathers, the two treated each other sincerely, heart-to-heart without guile, blending their two families into one harmonious unit despite their different surnames.

Six years ago in Shenzhen, Junjie met Zhang Simin, a bookstore saleswoman. They fell deeply in love, got married, and had a son named Jiaxi. After applying for five years, Simin finally obtained a one-way permit to Hong Kong and officially began living with Junjie. As a "new bride" and "grounded child," Simin had lived separately from Junjie for many years after their marriage. Now, living together officially with Junjie and others naturally led to some interpersonal issues. Adding to the complexity, Zhi Rong and his wife Li Wen decided to temporarily move back in with their parents, creating additional tension due to Li Wen's petty nature. Junjie, who always prioritized harmony and often sacrificed himself for others, now inadvertently compromised Simin’s rights as well, causing minor conflicts in their marital life.

Zhi Xin appears, misunderstandings pile up

Meanwhile, Zhi Rong and Li Wen had been married for many years. Although Li Wen was somewhat petty, she always prioritized her husband's interests. Even though Zhi Rong had a fiery temper, Li Wen never questioned him. However, during this period when Li Wen was pregnant, she discovered that Zhi Rong had mysterious movements and was secretly meeting a young woman, suspecting infidelity. In fact, this woman was none other than Zhi Rong's long-lost younger sister, Zhi Xin. Zhi Xin had grown up in Australia with her biological mother and returned to Hong Kong to attend university after her mother passed away. She became good friends with Ye An'er, the younger sister of Ye Anqi. By chance, Zhi Xin reunited with Zhi Rong. Believing that her father Guocheng had an extramarital affair with Meiping, leading to the abandonment of her mother and herself, Zhi Xin harbored resentment towards Guocheng. Despite reuniting with her brother Zhi Rong, she insisted that he keep their relationship secret.

Due to Li Wen's mistaken jealousy, Zhi Rong's biological mother remarried, resulting in a divorce. Guocheng chose not to defend himself or clear his name to protect the image of his ex-wife in Zhi Xin's eyes, willing to bear the stigma of being unfaithful. Meiping understood Guocheng's dilemma and always prioritized his needs. From the day she married Guocheng, Meiping resolved to be a model stepmother, showing even more affection towards Zhi Rong than her own son Junjie. Faced with Zhi Xin's accusations, as long as Guocheng remained silent, Meiping would not object.

Shunfeng and Qiming, like father and son

Junjie helped a widowed mother-in-law Huang Guihao, thus meeting her son Ou Shunfeng, who worked at the Immigration Department in the search boat team. Initially, hearing about Shunfeng through Guihao, Junjie thought he was authoritarian and rude, but upon meeting him, he realized Shunfeng was actually very filial. Due to his father's early death, Shunfeng was raised by his mother Guihao. Influenced by her strong character, Shunfeng started working part-time early on to support his family and pay for his sister Shunshui's education, never complaining about the heavy burden. He exemplified the saying that hardship in youth can lead to success. Junjie and Shunfeng shared similar interests and became good friends. Junjie found Shunfeng to have keen observational skills and rich life experiences. When Shunfeng joined the immigration department's investigation team, Junjie strongly recommended him to his superior Mai Qiming, eventually leading both Shunfeng and Junjie to join the investigation team. Junjie then learned that his friend Shunfeng was not only a favorite of Qiming but also the son of an old acquaintance, treating each other like father and son.

In fact, Junjie and Qiming had known each other earlier. Back then, Qiming was a celebrated figure admired by all new recruits at the immigration department, including Junjie. However, Junjie discovered that Qiming, who already had a wife and children, was involved with a female classmate of his, causing her emotional distress and eventual resignation and departure. Junjie was shocked by Qiming's moral corruption and held him in disdain. Years later, they met again, with Junjie becoming Qiming's subordinate. Carrying resentment, Junjie noticed Qiming's favoritism towards Shunfeng. However, after multiple interactions, misunderstandings, and understanding through work, Junjie realized Qiming was fair in his dealings and gained a better impression. He also learned that the female classmate he once suspected of having a relationship with Qiming was actually the sister of Qiming's right-hand man Han Yongnian, whose feelings were one-sided. This cleared any lingering resentment between Junjie and Qiming.
