Migrant workers, an identity, a symbol, a class that is ubiquitous in big cities yet ignored and forgotten by urban residents. Female migrant workers, with the dual disadvantaged identities of being women and migrant workers, are forced to become the lowest class in bustling cities. Pictures are the most truthful recorders, using their calm and objective lenses to document the clothing, food, shelter, transportation, lives, work, emotions, and entertainment... snippets of daily life for female migrant workers, all in order to recreate the methods of living and survival for these women.
The desire for beauty is inherent in women. Female migrant workers make repeated efforts to integrate into urban life, and clothing is their first step. Although female migrant workers can wear fashionable and trendy clothes, they are still easily recognized as outsiders by city people when walking on the streets, lost in the crowd. A full exposure of the real lives of female migrant workers reveals the living conditions of women at the bottom rung of society beneath the facade of fashionable cities.
