In a pole dancing competition held recently, Luayne Barber from Maryland, the United States broke everyone's impression of the traditional slim pole dancer. Weighing 252 pounds (about 228 catties), she left no trace of clumsiness on the pole. Her movements were professional and flexible, and her dance posture was as beautiful as an angel descending from heaven. Ultimately, Barber moved the judges with her excellent performance and won the championship. Beyond the surface glory of this championship, it also brought a bit of confidence to countless obese people.

At 252 pounds, Luayne participated in a challenging pole dance performance. She flung her bright red hair backward, clamped the pole with her thighs, and lifted her body. The audience cheered for her at this moment. Maryland is the most active area for pole dancing, and Luayne often competes on the same stage with peers who have light and nimble bodies. Her obese body makes climbing, spinning, handstands, and other dance moves appear even more difficult.

The 26-year-old Luayne works at a car dealership. After having a child in 2006, she conceived the idea of learning pole dancing. As a former cheerleader and dancer, she was not unfamiliar with the stage, but carrying her heavy body, she had to muster up the courage to learn pole dancing. She said: "I wanted to try learning pole dancing, but I always worried that others would look at me differently. When I took my first class, regardless of whether they were fat or thin, everyone was wearing high heels and short skirts, which made me feel much better." She recalled how she controlled her diet when she was young. Although she wasn't mocked at school, she still felt inferior. Pole dancing changed her perspective: "I immediately fell in love with pole dancing. This was the first time in years that I felt so good."

Luayne installed a pole at home and broadcasts her every move to her many fans through YouTube. Her husband Brown is her number one fan. Luayne wrote on her website Team-Lulu.com: "I've found the perfect balance between pole dancing and family life."
