Portrait photography can be classified by tone into high-key portraits, low-key portraits, mid-tone portraits, soft-tone portraits, and shadow tone portraits. These different tones can directly affect the viewer's visual perception. A low-key portrait can evoke associations of gravity and depth. The so-called mid-tone does not consist of gray tones, but rather is relative to high-key and low-key. In portrait photography, besides differences in light and dark tones, there is also a distinction between soft and hard tones.
