Magnetic Propulsion Principle of Disc-shaped Spacecraft

— Decoding the Mechanism of Flying Saucers

Keywords: Magnetic rudder, disc-shaped spacecraft, cosmic magnetic field, gyroscope, mini nuclear power

1 Introduction

A disc-shaped spacecraft is a new type of flight apparatus. Research into disc-shaped spacecraft not only broadens the study area of aircraft but also continuously meets civil and commercial needs, as well as international anti-terrorism and national defense requirements. Furthermore, it can be used to develop and utilize space resources, conduct space operations, and experiments.

Compared with other types of aircraft, disc-shaped spacecraft have a more compact structure, can generate tremendous lift, and can balance through gyroscopes. Studying them holds significant practical importance and has gradually become a major research focus both domestically and internationally.

2 Current Research Status

From the current domestic and international research situation, studies on disc-shaped spacecraft (excluding those used as props in films and TV) are mainly divided into two categories based on overall structural form: non-coaxial disc-shaped spacecraft and coaxial disc-shaped spacecraft; if classified by power drive form, they include propeller engines and jet engines.

In my opinion, the drawbacks of currently researched disc-shaped spacecraft are obvious. They resemble true flying saucers only superficially. Although they possess certain flight capabilities, all of them rely on aerodynamic propulsion designs and cannot operate independently outside the atmosphere.

3 Magnetic Flight Mechanism of Flying Saucers

3.1 Definition of Magnetic Rudder

The so-called magnetic rudder refers to a propulsion device that uses electromagnetic principles to produce a powerful, omnidirectional rotating magnetic field using electrical energy, driving itself and its payload through the magnetic field.

Magnets exhibit the property of like poles repelling and opposite poles attracting each other. Magnetic forces can levitate objects as well as propel them. The invention of the electric motor was inspired by this principle, provided there is control over the direction of the magnetic poles of the object being propelled. We can deepen our understanding of magnetic propulsion through an interesting experiment with a floating gyroscope: prepare a toy gyroscope, install a cylindrical magnet in the middle (the rotation axis), with the N pole facing down. Then prepare several large-diameter electromagnet coils (large enough to allow the gyroscope to rotate inside the coil), and connect the ends of the coil to a DC power source. After preparation, set the gyroscope spinning at high speed within the coil and energize the coil, ensuring that the current direction produces a magnetic field with the N pole facing upward. As you increase the current, an interesting phenomenon occurs: the gyroscope rises into the air. If you maintain a constant current, the gyroscope will hover after fluctuating up and down a few times. This phenomenon is not hard to explain: like magnetic poles repel each other, and the magnetic force generated by the electromagnet exerts an upward thrust on the gyroscope. When the thrust exceeds the weight of the gyroscope, it will rise off the ground. As it rises, the magnetic force decreases, reaching equilibrium with gravity at a certain height. Additionally, the rotating gyroscope possesses inherent stability due to its gyroscopic effect, resulting in the fascinating phenomenon of hovering in mid-air. If you further increase the current, the gyroscope will ascend higher until it eventually stops spinning due to air resistance and falls when the magnetic polarity becomes unstable.

Nowadays, there are already suspension gyroscope toys based on this principle, as shown below:

3.2 Cosmic Magnetic Field

Earth’s internal liquid conductor iron in turbulent flow creates Earth's magnetic field. Similarly, the universe contains magnetic fields due to the high-speed operation of galaxies, which we can call etheric magnetic fields.

The universe contains many galaxies, which in turn contain numerous planets. There is no gas between these planets, typically referred to as vacuum, yet there exists a substance called a magnetic field. According to reports in "Scientists Daily", scientists recently discovered a mysterious magnetic field in the Milky Way that is constantly changing, namely the large cosmic magnetic field M51 existing in the galaxy.

It is precisely the quasars in the early Milky Way that shine with abnormal brilliance, providing clues for scientists searching for the origin of this large magnetic field: when the universe was only one-third of its current age, these magnetic fields were slowly strengthening. Astronauts found that the light radiating from quasars has an angularity and exhibits polarization phenomena, caused by the distortion of light by cosmic magnetic fields. The degree of polarization increases as the distance of the quasar increases.

Therefore, a research team composed of scientists from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology used large telescopes at the European Southern Observatory in Chile to observe nearly seventy quasars to find hidden galaxies and mysterious cosmic magnetic fields between the quasars and Earth. During the observation process, researchers found that the degree of polarization of magnesium II spectra in the light emitted by the currently observed quasars far exceeded the polarization conditions of the same spectra obtained from other quasars. Researchers understood this phenomenon as definitive proof of the existence of galaxies and cosmic magnetic fields, with polarization occurring as light passes through galaxies and magnetic fields.

Through spectral redshift, the age of the galactic magnetic field can be inferred. Analysis shows that this magnetic field formed approximately five hundred twenty million years ago. Scientists also found that initially, there was no mysterious magnetic field in this galaxy, but the intense motion of quasars generated a large, weak-intensity cosmic magnetic field. Cosmic storms gradually expanded the magnetic field. Researchers said, "Observations show that the expansion speed of the cosmic magnetic field is quite astonishing." Placing these magnetic field data into computer models related to stars allows us to understand why it formed five hundred million years ago and also understand the impact of the magnetic field on the size of star formation. Currently, scientists continue to observe this mysterious, expanding cosmic magnetic field.

3.3 Summary

The research field of aviation mainly focuses on the atmosphere within the Earth's surface. Expanding human activity to space is the task of aerospace research. All current spacecraft require large amounts of solid propellants, utilizing the principle of conservation of momentum to spray propellants backward at high speeds to generate forward thrust. However, the large amount of propellant itself consumes fuel, becoming a load, forming a prominent and insurmountable contradiction. Therefore, even visiting our closest space neighbor, the moon, is a very massive and difficult project.

The cosmic magnetic field and magnetic rudder in this hypothesis are the foundation of long-distance space travel.

The magnetic rudder is the key to this hypothesis. Just as ancient humans relied on sails to explore vast oceans, the cosmic magnetic field is the sea, and the magnetic rudder is the sail. If extraterrestrial intelligent beings truly visited Earth in flying saucers, they would undoubtedly depend on this mechanism.

4 Structure Composition of Flying Saucers

The flying saucer device is a highly integrated super-modern mechatronic equipment. Its composition includes the main frame, outer shell, cockpit, and drive unit, organically combining multiple processing systems such as power, control, telemetry, assurance, and comprehensive processing into one body. It covers most modern scientific fields, such as electromagnetics, miniature nuclear power, automatic control, aerodynamics, superconductivity technology, material science, precision machinery, etc. The related literature hypothetical diagram is shown below.

4.1 Main Frame

The main frame is the foundation supporting the spacecraft and must be made of high-strength, lightweight alloys. Moreover, the metal should have memory functionality, allowing it to self-recover even if damaged or deformed. This poses a great challenge to materials science. Currently, lightweight memory metals are widely used in civilian eyeglasses.

4.2 Outer Shell

Similarly made of high-strength, lightweight alloys, the outer shell also features a streamlined shape. Observing various cross-sections of the flying saucer, they all present streamlined shapes. On planets containing atmospheres, this design provides high freedom of movement in any direction, enabling excellent maneuverability for free flight.

4.3 Cockpit

The cockpit is a sealed cabin where the pilot controls and rests. It is equipped with a comprehensive control system. The exterior surface of the cockpit is lined with highly efficient thermal insulation material, resistant to radiation and pressure.

4.4 Drive Unit

The drive unit is the executive mechanism that propels the flying saucer. Composed of multiple magnetic rudders arranged in a circular distribution, coordinated cooperation among the magnetic rudders generates the necessary power for the flying saucer. The drive unit can freely rotate 360 degrees around the columnar framework to ensure the center of gravity remains balanced and the ride remains comfortable.

4.4.1 Composition of Magnetic Rudders (Patent Applied)

Each magnetic rudder consists of two mutually perpendicular axes, forming a universal joint capable of 360-degree rotation via slip rings. The central load is a superconducting electromagnetic coil group, with the two-dimensional rotational frames driven by motors capable of speed and angle measurement. A microcontroller system forms the servo control for the magnetic rudder.

a) Universal Frame

Made up of two frames capable of 360-degree rotation, including conductive slip rings, motors, gyroscopes, and bearings. These components are enclosed in ultra-strong magnetic shielding shells made of nickel-iron alloy materials to avoid interference during large magnetic field generation.

b) Superconducting Electromagnetic Coil Group

The application of superconductivity effectively enhances the efficiency of electrical energy and reduces heat generation. The current can be made extremely large without producing excessive heat, thereby generating a very strong magnetic field. In recent years, the development of electromagnetic cannons internationally follows a similar principle. The superconducting electromagnetic coil group is covered by an outer shell with thermal insulation and electromagnetic wave transmission properties. Inside the shell, there is a vacuum, the coil, and a Stirling cooling machine.

The magnetic field distribution is uniform and consistent in the region of ferromagnetic materials. Due to the high permeability of ferromagnetic materials (i.e., μr>>1), the formula for calculating the magnitude of the magnetic force can be simplified according to the magnetic circuit as shown in equation 1.

Where B is the magnetic flux density at the interaction surface between the magnetic field and the ferromagnetic material,

H is the magnetic field strength at the interaction surface between the magnetic field and the ferromagnetic material,

S is the area of the interaction surface between the magnetic field and the ferromagnetic material.

The formula uses the SI unit system, where the units of F, B, H, S are N, T, A/m, m² respectively.

Thus, the dimension of the force expression is TA m, proportional to both current and length. Given a fixed total length of the coil, the force is proportional to the current. The current in a superconductor, I = U/R, can be made very large with minimal heat generation, T = I²R being very low.

Calculation of forces on Earth's surface involves calculations along the direction of magnetic flux lines,

Parameters of the superconducting coil: length

4.4.2 Brief Analysis of Magnetic Flight of Flying Saucers

a) Takeoff

Simplify the magnetic rudder to a magnetic symbol. When needing to move laterally in a magnetic field, each pair of magnetic rudders rotates in opposite directions. The magnetic force experienced by this pair of magnetic rudders is as shown in the figure. The components of the magnetic force along the magnetic flux line cancel each other out, while the components cutting across the magnetic flux line add up to form a resultant force, enabling the flying saucer to vertically ascend. At this point, the speed is very low (to overcome gravity, auxiliary jet systems should also be available).

b) Ascending Flight

When the flying saucer reaches a certain height above the ground, the deflection direction of each pair of magnetic rudders is consistent, forming an inclined upward resultant force to accelerate the flying saucer. The attitude of the flying saucer makes its horizontal neutral plane form a certain angle with the flight direction, simultaneously utilizing the aerodynamic shape to generate tremendous lift, ascending into space over the strongest magnetic poles of the planet.

c) Space Flight

During high-altitude or space flight, all magnetic rudders adjust their directions opposite to the cosmic magnetic field lines. The vertical neutral plane of the flying saucer is parallel to the magnetic field lines, eliminating gas resistance, enabling flight at extremely high speeds and accelerations. Adjust the angles of the magnetic rudders according to interstellar navigation and flight conditions.

4.3 Multi-system Integration

Includes the power system, where miniature nuclear power is the endless source of electricity generation, capable of producing substantial electrical energy;

The automatic control system is responsible for flight control. Additionally, it should include remote sensing navigation systems, life support and safety assurance systems, comprehensive information processing systems, etc.

5 Conclusion

All component systems are highly specialized. Limited by my own level and the limited scope of this article, detailed analysis and explanation are not convenient. Extensive experimentation and research are required, hoping that professionals will explore together.

Expectations are that this hypothesis can serve as a stepping stone, initiating the prelude to researching a new generation of aerospace vehicles, wishing humanity to soon realize the dream of galloping through the universe and interstellar travel.
