The annual Perseid meteor shower has arrived, with the Earth crossing the orbit of the Perseid meteor stream from July 17 to August 24 this year. According to a forecast by the Guangdong Astronomical Society, the peak of this year's Perseid meteor shower will occur around midnight (Beijing Time) on the morning of August 13th. The best observation spots globally are countries like Japan and North Korea. In China, the optimal viewing time is from midnight until dawn on August 13th. If the weather is clear, the Perseid meteor shower can be observed across the country. However, since the peak of the Perseid meteor shower coincides with the 23rd day of the Chinese lunar calendar, observations in the early morning may be interfered with by the waning crescent moon. It is reported that the sunrise time in Guangzhou on August 13th will be at 6:03 AM. The radiant point of the Perseid meteor shower is located at right ascension 46 degrees and declination 58 degrees. The anti-directional extensions of numerous meteors converge at this intersection point. The speed of the Perseid meteors is relatively fast, breaking through the night sky at a speed of 49 kilometers per second. It is learned that, in order for citizens to better observe the Perseid meteor shower, the Guangdong Astronomical Observation Base will organize citizens to observe at the Wanqingsha Original Countryside Manor in Nansha District.
