Scientists Observe a Four-Galaxy Collision 280 Million Light-Years Away
Reported by the US magazine Wired, astronomers have observed the rare celestial phenomenon of four galaxies colliding 280 million light-years away using space telescopes and ground-based telescopes.
In the center of the above image of the four-galaxy collision, a bright spiral galaxy is colliding with and passing through the overlapping region of the galaxy collision at a speed of approximately 2 million miles per hour (about 3.21 million kilometers).
