Windows XP can also achieve the 3D desktop technology of XGL + Beryl/Compiz on Linux.

Xgl on Linux is absolutely the coolest desktop virtual 3D technology released last year; the 3D effects of Mac OS and Vista are kid stuff compared to Xgl. Recently, while searching online for the latest Beryl DesktopManager on Linux, I found that there is now an open-source project that can enable functionality similar to Xgl on Windows. They already have a 0.1 version. I downloaded it but found it was all source files, uncompiled, so it couldn't run directly. Thus, I can only look forward to this open-source project releasing an official, runnable version soon. There's a video showcasing the effects at http://tv.mofile.com/MIHC97TT/. The homepage of this open-source project is http://www.toyd.org.
