Xiao Xu was discharged after being bandaged with no major issues. Reporter Qiu Weirong took the photo. Skipping breakfast led to fainting; no intracranial bleeding, no skull fracture.

Report by reporter Lin Honghao: Yesterday morning, freshmen at the University Town campus of South China University of Technology were rehearsing for the military training performance. One male student suddenly fainted and hit the bayonet held by the student behind him, causing heavy bleeding. He received nearly 10 stitches. A CT scan showed "no visible intracranial bleeding, no visible skull fractures."

Some students fainted upon seeing the blood.

At noon yesterday, a message was widely circulated on the Weibo accounts of some students in Guangzhou University Town: "A student suddenly fainted during military training and fell, getting his back of the head pierced by the bayonet behind him. The injury was very serious."

I found related information on Sina Weibo. A user named "Z_Yu Fa_BLBQ" said: "During the morning rehearsal, someone in the rifle squad fainted. When he fell down, his scalp was directly pierced by the bayonet from the person behind. The scene was quite disgusting, and several classmates beside me who witnessed it also fainted." Another user named "Huagong Weibo Campus Supervisor" described: "Sent to the University Town hospital, stitched up, now awake and properly bandaged. Hope this classmate recovers soon and gets rid of the shadow!"

Similar Weibo messages were frequently forwarded among students. However, why did the student suddenly faint during the military training? What exactly was the condition of the student's injuries? There was no specific explanation on Weibo. I tried various ways through Weibo to contact students who witnessed the scene to understand the detailed situation but was refused each time. For a while, the incident seemed shrouded in mystery.

The external injuries were not serious.

Around 4:30 PM, I arrived at the University Town branch of the Provincial Chinese Medicine Hospital. In the emergency room's observation ward, I found the injured student Xiao Xu. Wearing glasses, Xiao Xu's head was bandaged with white cloth, and he was still wearing camouflage. His mental state was clear, and when mentioning the accident that morning, there was occasionally a shy look on his round face.

I asked, "Is it true that your injuries are severe as wildly spread online?" Before Xiao Xu could respond, two classmates sitting next to his bed quickly answered, "It's not that serious, pure rumor." Xiao Xu said that yesterday morning was their military training rehearsal. The activity started promptly at 8 AM, and he was part of the rifle squad. Around 11 AM, he suddenly felt dizzy and couldn't stand steadily, so he fell backward. Coincidentally, his back of the head hit the bayonet on the rifle held by the student behind him, piercing his scalp and causing a lot of blood to flow out immediately.

According to the on-duty doctor, Xiao Xu’s back of the head had been stitched nearly 10 times. After a cranial CT scan, it was confirmed: "No visible intracranial bleeding, no visible skull fractures."

Xiao Xu was discharged yesterday.

When talking about the cause of sudden fainting, Xiao Xu looked rather embarrassed, "It should be because I didn’t eat breakfast in the morning." Xiao Xu said that he went to bed late the previous night and got up a bit late. When he rushed to the cafeteria to buy breakfast, there was already a long queue at the window. Meanwhile, the military training rehearsal couldn't be delayed, so he just skipped breakfast and ran to the playground. "The rehearsal started at 8 AM and lasted until 11 AM. By then, I was already feeling hungry and panicky. Later, I became dizzy and fell down. I will never skip breakfast again."

At around 5:30 PM, Xiao Xu was discharged smoothly accompanied by teachers and classmates. Due to his injury, he would definitely not be able to participate in the upcoming military training performance. Xiao Xu planned to go home early to recuperate over the New Year.
