American 'hyperthymesia woman' feels like she is time traveling every day
The 37-year-old female musician from New York City, Louise Owen, is a "hyperthymesia woman" with super memory. She can remember any big or small events that happened around her over the past 25 years. If given any past date, she can recall all the major and minor news events of that day, even remembering the weather conditions clearly. She said, "I feel like I am time traveling every day," because whenever she recalls a certain date in the past, all the events of that day flood into her mind.
She possesses a super memory
According to American media reports on the 19th, the 37-year-old Louise Owen is a violinist from New York City, USA. From her appearance, she doesn't seem much different from other American women, but in fact, she is a rare "hyperthymesia woman" with a super memory. Because Louise's brain works like an ever-active computer, able to remember any big or small events that happened around her over the past 25 years!
Louise told reporters that her brain stores all memories as faithfully as a computer hard drive. Whenever she locks onto any particular day, the memories of that day flood into her mind. Louise said, "For me, I often see a calendar in my mind. When I hear a past date, my brain immediately searches for this date on the calendar. Once my brain locks onto the specific date, I can immediately 'see' everything that happened on that day."
Every day is like yesterday
Louise's memory can jump from one day to another unrelated day, from one year to another, without any blurring or hesitation.
Louise said that whenever she recalls the past, she has the illusion of being on a "time travel" journey because any day since 1985 is as clear to her as if it happened yesterday. For example, when she recalls a certain day in 1986, she not only remembers who she met and talked to that day, but even remembers the color of their clothes and hairstyles clearly.
Two days of "memory blur"
When a scientist asked Louise about the weather conditions in January 1990, Louise immediately responded, "It was drizzling and cloudy on January 14th and 15th of that year, but it was very humid on January 27th and 28th, though there was no rain." Louise's answer perfectly matched the data recorded in the historical weather archives!
However, for some unknown reason, two days in the past 25 years are relatively blurry in Louise's memory: March 5th, 2004, and February 3rd, 2008. Louise cannot recall any news events that happened on these two days, as if the "hard drive data" in her brain regarding these two days had errors or were accidentally deleted.
Gathering of six "memory superhumans"
It is reported that there are at least six "memory superhumans" like Louise in the United States. Other "memory superhumans" include American actress Marilu Henner, as well as Jill Price, Rick Barron, Brad Williams, and Bob Petrella. Recently, these six "memory superhumans" gathered together for the first time and jointly accepted an exclusive interview from the CBS program "60 Minutes."
The extraordinary memory abilities of these "memory superhumans" have greatly astonished American memory experts. It is reported that American scientists are currently conducting scientific research on these "memory superhumans" in an attempt to unravel the mysteries behind their extraordinary memory abilities.
Dr. James McGaugh, a neurobiology professor at the University of California, Irvine, said, "What is most surprising is that despite having such vast super memory, their brains do not get confused. Their brains can clearly retrieve any correct information from any period in the past, which is a puzzle to us."
