Stability First in Credit Operations

In recent years, with the entry of young university graduates into rural cooperative financial institutions, more and more newcomers have started to work in credit positions. Many of them begin their careers from grassroots rural credit operations. So, what issues should be noted when one first comes into contact with rural credit operations? Based on my own work experience, I have summarized the following suggestions:

1. Proceed steadily.

With the further promotion of incentive assessment mechanisms in recent years, the days of equal sharing are gone forever. The performance of credit officers is closely related to their loan volume. As a newcomer, everything is unfamiliar. If one blindly pursues loan volume, it is very likely that they will neglect other aspects, affecting the quality of loans. Short-term benefits may increase, but long-term risks also rise, which ultimately results in losses. When first dealing with rural credit operations, the emphasis should be on "stability". The main task is learning, while continuously understanding the local credit environment and carefully maintaining existing loans. For new loans, the access criteria should be strictly followed according to regulations.

2. Enhance communication.

Enhancing communication starts with internal communication. Newcomers facing a new environment can rely most on their leaders and colleagues, who have rich credit experience. Learn from them and draw what we need. At the same time, for some confusing issues, strengthen communication and coordination. Also, enhance communication with borrowers. Humble oneself and provide as much financial service as possible within one's capabilities. For non-negotiable principle issues, explain clearly to the borrower.

3. Listen widely to gain clarity.

Especially for newcomers, if the source of information is single, it is very likely to result in biased listening. Everyone's views carry personal colors. Therefore, when conducting loan investigations, inquire from multiple sources. As one becomes more familiar with the local credit situation, it will become clear whose information is more reliable and useful.

4. Physical effort determines mental power.

For the vast majority of people, IQ is average. Without sufficient experience and information resources, it is unreliable to judge a person's character and strength based on their words and actions alone. Therefore, do not take chances or jump to conclusions. For newcomers, running around and observing more is the key. You may have to travel dozens of miles for a loan of just a few thousand yuan. However, you must understand that if you don't make this trip, the loss it might cause could not be recovered even by traveling hundreds of miles.

5. Establish your own customer information archive.

For credit officers, the main verifiable information during post-loan inspection work comes from the electronic loan ledger. However, the electronic ledger cannot cover all usable information about borrowers in actual work. Therefore, establishing one's own customer information archive is very practical. For newcomers, besides finding relevant information, it can also serve as our work plan and summary.
