Plastic surgery experts are conducting consultations. Shenzhen Evening News reporter Ding Kai took the photo. Shenzhen Evening News (Weibo) reporter Gao Shenxian reported that recently, our newspaper's report "The incidence of 'plastic surgery addiction' in Shenzhen has suddenly increased" has drawn attention to the phenomenon of 'plastic surgery addiction'. According to information from Shenzhen Pengcheng Hospital, during the National Day holiday, the number of customers consulting about plastic surgery and beauty treatments increased by forty percent compared to normal. Among them, a woman named Rachel had undergone plastic surgery 51 times over 14 years at various hospitals across the country. Her 52nd request for plastic surgery was rejected by the experts at Pengcheng Hospital.
A. Spent nearly 600,000 yuan on plastic surgery over 14 years
"Why can't I spend my own money on my own face? What exactly is the problem?" In response to Rachel's question, the president of Shenzhen Pengcheng Hospital, Zhou Pengwu, patiently explained, "As a doctor, I must be honest with you. You really shouldn't undergo any more surgeries. Your nose and facial features are already very good. There's really no need for further surgery. I advise you not to easily undergo surgery anymore." This was a dialogue heard by the reporter in the consultation room at Pengcheng Hospital.
When asked about her first plastic surgery, Rachel said, "I remember when I was in school, a boy joked that I looked like an 'accident scene' and 'unbearable to look at,' which deeply hurt me." She told the reporter that no boys had ever liked her. At school, she could only study hard and passed the highest level Japanese language exam in her third year, often taking on translation jobs and earning a lot of money. "After making money, I started thinking about changing myself - undergoing plastic surgery, and once I started, I couldn't stop," she said.
She mentioned, "I've had four nose tip surgeries alone. Sometimes, if it didn't look right, I would want to fix it again. Since I've already done so much, a few more times don't matter." Starting with a rhinoplasty in Dalian in 1997, Rachel has now undergone 51 plastic surgeries. "Over 14 years, I have spent nearly 600,000 yuan on plastic surgery. My ideas were always too advanced, and using immature technology was very painful," Rachel recalled. After having chin augmentation surgery in 2000, her chin was numb for half a year; after back liposuction, she lay in bed for three months.
"I came to work in Shenzhen five years ago and visited Professor Zhou Pengwu at Shenzhen Pengcheng Hospital upon a friend's recommendation. Over the years, I think only Professor Zhou knows all the procedures I've undergone," Rachel said. She lost count of how many times she had pulse light treatments, hyaluronic acid injections, and leg slimming injections.
B. Too much plastic surgery, dared not accept boyfriend's proposal
In May this year, Johnnie, Rachel's German boyfriend who had been dating her for over a year, proposed to her for the fourth time, and she refused him again. This was the fourth proposal this year, but each time Rachel's response was to consider it further because she didn't dare to confess to her boyfriend about her numerous plastic surgeries.
Rachel said that her previous two boyfriends also broke up with her due to this reason. "I know many people cannot accept beauties who have had plastic surgery, including Johnnie. I'm afraid he will be scared away if I tell him," Rachel helplessly said, "At the beginning of the year, he said he had bought tickets and invited me to go back to Germany to meet his parents. I lied and said I was working overtime and declined, because my ID card was issued before I underwent cheek augmentation surgery several years ago. In recent years, I've had many minor adjustments, and my appearance has changed significantly. I'm afraid I won't be able to pass through customs at the airport."
When asked about her parents' views on her marriage, Rachel said, "My parents are very anxious. Every phone call is the same content: they say the neighbor's aunt already has two grandchildren, but I haven't even gotten married yet." After this rejection of plastic surgery, Rachel realized the severity of the issue. She said she plans to take some time off and adjust her mindset properly.
Professor Zhou Pengwu, a plastic surgery expert at Shenzhen Pengcheng Hospital, stated that medical aesthetics emphasizes a balanced beauty. Whether it's breast augmentation, liposuction, nose augmentation, or other plastic surgeries, they should all be based on not harming physical health and moderate plastic surgery. Excessive plastic surgery or excessive injection of certain agents can cause great harm to the body.
Renowned psychology expert and body image disorder research expert Professor Tian Yahua expressed that society should promote healthy aesthetic views and focus on the mental and physical health development of individuals. If one finds themselves addicted to plastic surgery, they should immediately seek help from a psychologist. Share to: Welcome to comment, I want to comment.
