In April 2010, an earthquake occurred in Yushu, Qinghai Province, leaving many children orphaned after losing their parents. A project called "One Hundred Orphans Grow" brought 100 orphans from Yushu to Beijing for education and committed to raising them until they turned 18. In less than two years, these children had grown taller and stronger physically. During dinner, the children performed on stage.

This was the second Chinese New Year that the children celebrated. Staff members of the Mercy Corps bought each child two pairs of red socks and new underwear. Gifts were prepared according to the characteristics of each child. For instance, Ram has thick and long hair, so they bought her shampoo. For Xi Huan who likes painting, they picked a watercolor brush. Besides the gifts, each child received New Year's money. Yesterday at noon, a festive free dinner was provided at a loving restaurant. Last night, volunteers also joined the children with fireworks, noodles, and dumplings. They set off firecrackers and stayed up together.

■ Story: The 10-year-old orphan participated in choreography.

Ten-year-old Russian Dolma lost her mother in the earthquake and often secretly cried while carrying her brother. In her most vulnerable and desperate time, the China Child Mercy Corps included her among the one hundred orphans receiving recuperation. The rest camp’s living arrangements were very rich, including emotional comfort, heart-easing tours, and more. Gradually, her face began to smile again.

Today, Russian Dolma is a second-year student. Not only has her academic performance greatly improved, but she has also demonstrated talent in the arts, such as painting, music, and dance. In every school performance, she participates in dance choreography and performance.
