Li's mother said that after her daughter graduated from university in Qingdao and worked as a floor manager in a mall, she had just persuaded her daughter to quit and return to their hometown in Henan province when the incident happened the next day.
The court found that Xin Xueming and Gao Xiaodong's actions constituted robbery and resulted in death. Legally, Xin Xueming was sentenced to death, Gao Xiaodong to life imprisonment, and they were ordered to compensate the victim's family with over 600,000 yuan.
The court determined that Xin Xueming and Gao Xiaodong intercepted 27-year-old girl Li near the HanTing chain hotel on the east side of Zhao Gongkou long-distance bus station in Fengtai District. When Li resisted, Xin Xueming stabbed her fiercely with a sharp knife, causing her death. After robbing Li's bag, which contained 3200 yuan RMB and a Nokia phone among other items related to Qingdao website design, the two fled the scene. On August 5, 2010, Xin Xueming and Gao Xiaodong were caught.
Xin Xueming was 22 years old, and Gao Xiaodong was 20 years old. According to Xin Xueming’s confession from Inner Mongolia, on August 1, 2010, he had no money left and was wandering around Muxiyuan and Zhao Gongkou areas. Around 9 pm on August 3, he met Gao Xiaodong who had come to Beijing from Hebei and was scammed out of his money and phone while job hunting. After discussing, the two decided to rob people for money to go home. At around 11 pm that night, the two robbed and killed young woman Li near Zhao Gongkou.
