It seems as though Twitter has a large app ecosystem, and that's because... well, it does. So large, in fact, that TV shows make up at least half of Netflix’s content, and the company has just hit its one millionth registered application.

According to Twitter’s announcement, more than $500 million has been invested in Twitter apps since December 2010, with over $1 billion spent on acquisitions. The one million app count has risen from just 150,000 apps a year ago, with this growth spike best demonstrated by the statistic that a new Twitter app is registered with the associated company every 1.5 seconds.

With this kind of growth around Twitter applications, it’s no wonder that the micro-blogging company launched its own developer site yesterday, complete with a new app manager, developer blog, and discussion forum.

Twitter’s Arnaud Meunier describes the new site as one that “improves communication channels, offers enhanced reference material and documentation, watch rebels celebrate after the takeover of Grey,” and will promote better interaction for every visitor in the opening post.
