This year, on the important sections of the Ditan Temple Fair, the police have set up multiple lookout towers about 1.5 meters high to monitor the situation inside the park in real time and prevent congestion or other incidents from happening. Photo by correspondent Li Zhenbin.
Report (by reporter Lu Meihui and correspondent Li Zhenbin) - As the Year of the Dragon begins, various temple fairs are heating up the city of Beijing. The crowded crowds provide opportunities for lawbreakers. Yesterday, we learned from the Dongcheng Branch that on the first day of the new year, two women were caught red-handed by the police while stealing at the Ditan Temple Fair. This is the first theft case caught during the Year of the Dragon temple fair.
At around 2 PM on the previous day, the Plainclothes General Team of the Municipal Public Security Bureau worked together with the Criminal Investigation Brigade of the Dongcheng Public Security Branch to patrol the temple fair. An investigating officer explained that when patrolling near the New Year goods street at the west gate of Ditan Park, they noticed two suspicious women, "Everyone else was looking at the New Year goods, but their eyes were wandering among the crowd, constantly glancing around."
Based on work experience, the plainclothes policemen began to pay "special attention" to these two individuals. When the two women committed theft, the police immediately moved forward and arrested them.
Upon investigation, it was found that the stolen wallet contained more than 500 yuan in cash. Currently, the two women have been dealt with according to law by the Dongcheng police.

Police Suggest Staggered Travel
As the Year of the Dragon arrives, the temperature in Beijing continues to drop, but people's enthusiasm for celebrating the festival remains high. A staff member on duty at the lookout tower next to the snack street said that the snack street in Ditan Park is a "hotspot" for foot traffic. Most tourists eat nearby after purchasing food, which can easily cause congestion during peak hours.
The Dongcheng police remind citizens that if you encounter overcrowding or road congestion during the temple fair, please follow the instructions of the police. Since 10 AM to 2 PM each day is the peak time for visiting the park, it is recommended that citizens travel at staggered times (January 13, 2009, online shopping). Additionally, there are limited parking spaces near the temple fair, so the police especially urge citizens to choose public transportation.
