Beijing Morning Post (reporter Hao Tao) - On the first day of the Chinese New Year, two women were caught pickpocketing wallets at a temple fair. Yesterday, I learned from Dongcheng police that these two women became the first thieves of the lunar new year in Beijing.
Around 14:00 on the first day of the New Year, the Plainclothes Division of the Municipal Public Security Bureau worked with the Criminal Investigation Brigade of the Dongcheng Public Security Branch and caught two women stealing at the Ditan Temple Fair. At the west gate of Ditan, near the New Year goods street, two suspicious women caught the attention of the police. Their eyes weren't focused on the New Year goods but instead they were wandering through the crowd, frequently looking around. Based on their work experience, the plainclothes officers began to "specially monitor" these two individuals. When the two women were stealing, the police immediately moved forward and caught the two women. Upon investigation, it was found that the stolen wallet contained over 500 yuan in cash. Currently, both women have been dealt with according to the law by the Dongcheng police.
To address the densely crowded issue of the 27th Ditan Temple Fair, the Dongcheng police have formulated corresponding work plans and deployed nearly a thousand security personnel including police officers, armed police soldiers, and security guards.
