After personally experiencing the harms of gambling, a couple from Henan Province's Puyang City resolutely gave up their business and embarked on an "anti-gambling public welfare" mission. Their journey took them through 10 provinces across the country. In each place they visited, they distributed promotional materials on the streets and rented offices to open hotlines, sharing their personal stories to teach others that "the sea of gambling has no boundaries, but there is always a way back." (Our newspaper reported on this on July 20, 2010.) During the National Day holiday, this anti-gambling couple from Henan finally arrived in Zhengzhou, stating that they would establish an anti-gambling base in Zhengzhou, providing free assistance to help people overcome their gambling addiction.

Evening News reporter Xiong Yanqiu

A couple from Jiangxi came to Zhengzhou for help

On the afternoon of October 1st, at Room 340, 13A floor, Building 53, Fuitian Sun City, the reporter met Mr. and Mrs. Guo Guoflag from Puyang.

Guo Guoflag was exchanging views with a couple from Jiangxi about the dangers of gambling while his wife Cheng Juan sat in front of the computer, communicating with seekers nationwide through QQ groups.

"Since the reporter is here, let him also listen to your experiences, to warn others!"

This couple from Jiangxi, the man named Deng Haowen and the woman named Shi Juanping, were once a happy pair of small business owners in Xinfeng County, Jiangxi, but now dare not return home.

"I am 37 years old this year, and I started gambling on August 17th last year," said Deng Haowen. He owned a small coal mine in his hometown, and his wife ran a clothing store, accumulating a fortune of 5 million yuan. But it was all lost, and he owed over 1 million yuan in high-interest loans, two young men giving up the chance to be civil servants to become teachers in the mountains.

The anti-gambling couple plans to set up a "Zhengzhou Anti-Gambling Base"

Watching Guo Guoflag skillfully manipulate cards and mahjong tiles like magic tricks, the Deng Haowen couple fully understood the scams on the gambling table, feeling helpless and regretful.

Cheng Juan said that Deng Haowen's tragic situation was very similar to hers in those days. She was also lured into the casino by friends, then became addicted as if under a spell, eventually losing over 2 million yuan of her family fortune.

"People who lose at gambling often feel不服气(unwilling to accept defeat), thinking their luck is bad, but rarely consider that nine out of ten gamblers are cheated," said Guo Guoflag. His wife Cheng Juan was once like that too. To make Cheng Juan realize the essence of gambling, he specially took her south to Guangdong, finding "China's King of Cards" Zheng Taishun, letting her understand the harmful nature of "cheating techniques" in gambling. After Cheng Juan successfully quit gambling, the Guo Guoflag couple decided to abandon their family business and travel across the country to help others quit gambling for free, helping more victims on the brink of family destruction to turn back.

"In fact, everyone understands the big principles, but only after seeing the cheating techniques firsthand can one wake up and realize they've been deceived," said Guo Guoflag. Helping people quit gambling means entering the inner world of gamblers. "Only by unraveling the knots in their hearts can one completely quit gambling."

Guo Guoflag also demonstrated the "anti-cheating tools" he and his wife developed: poker cards and dice that cannot be tampered with, and a "monster-revealing mirror" that can see through gambling equipment. By placing this "monster-revealing mirror" in front of one's eyes, using透视(perspective), the scam of gambling equipment becomes clearly visible.

"Before coming to Zhengzhou, we have already traveled through 10 provincial capitals such as Taiyuan and Changsha," said Guo Guoflag. Henan is our hometown, and this time coming to Zhengzhou is different from other provincial capitals because he plans to establish a long-term anti-gambling base in Zhengzhou.

"We have been engaged in voluntary anti-gambling work for three years. During these three years, every time we arrived at a new place, we first rented a house at our own expense, announced the anti-gambling hotline, and simultaneously distributed anti-gambling materials on the streets. My mobile phone number has remained unchanged for three years, which is still 13408655559. We have just opened a fixed telephone line in Zhengzhou, the number being 0371-56665135, hoping to help more people."
