According to Chu Tian Jinbao and the report of News Morning Post, it can be confirmed from the brand-new marriage certificate and passport registration information that Li Ting (a pseudonym) had experienced an unimaginable absurd marriage during the period from December 28, 2011 to January 30, 2012. The other day, Li Ting, who was working in Shanghai, told reporters his strange story of "marrying" a Vietnamese bride.
Li Ting said he was the leader of a restaurant in Shanghai. Although he had been in Shanghai for two or three years, due to limited economic conditions and poor communication skills, his personal affairs had not been settled.
At the end of November last year, Li Ting saw an advertisement of a certain marriage website while surfing the Internet in a cyber cafe out of boredom. It said that as long as he spent 38,000 yuan, he could choose a young and beautiful Vietnamese girl as his wife.
According to the reserved information on the website, Li Ting got in touch with a woman named Xiao Zhu in Nanning, Guangxi. Xiao Zhu told him that it was very easy to marry a Vietnamese wife. As long as he prepared his passport, Vietnamese visa, and unmarried certificate, he could contact the local marriage agency in Vietnam through her intermediary, and she would arrange for him to personally go to Vietnam for matchmaking. She also guaranteed that "all the girls are young and healthy Vietnamese girls, you will definitely find one that satisfies you."
The 38,000 yuan included round-trip airfare, matchmaking fees, wedding banquets in Vietnam, wedding photos, and gifts for the bride's family. Li Ting thought that at such a price, it would be impossible to find a suitable wife in Shanghai, let alone in his hometown in Anhui.
On December 28 last year, with Xiao Zhu's help, Li Ting arrived in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, where a tall man speaking Mandarin Chinese who called himself Ah Zheng met him at the airport. On the second day after arriving, Ah Zheng arranged a face-to-face matchmaking session for Li Ting. "Those girls were directly brought to the office building for us to choose from." Li Ting recalled that the first girl arranged that day was very pretty and made him feel excited. Li Ting, blushing, said: "I'll take her." What Li Ting did not expect was that Ah Zheng actually arranged for the two of them to stay in the same room that night. That night, nothing happened between Li Ting and the girl; the next morning, Ah Zheng asked Li Ting to pay the full 38,000 yuan matchmaking fee.
After bargaining, Li Ting paid half of the matchmaking fee first, agreeing to pay the rest after completing the wedding in Vietnam. Next, under Ah Zheng's arrangement, Li Ting met the girl's family, then took wedding photos and handled procedures. It was only after he paid all the matchmaking fees according to the agreement that he discovered the girl was only 17 years old.
After Li Ting paid another 2,000 US dollars, Ah Zheng helped modify the girl's identity information. Li Ting remembered that when he first saw the Vietnamese girl's identity information, her Chinese name was "Li Qiushui," but after modification, the girl's name was changed to "Chen Yuqiongying," and her age was changed from 17 to 21.
On January 14, after spending nearly 50,000 yuan, Li Ting finally happily led his Vietnamese bride, who was 21 years old in "virtual age," back to China. On January 30, the two obtained their marriage certificate from the civil affairs department in Anhui.
A shadow over the marriage: the bride wants to leave
"I don't know why she is always like that!" As soon as Li Ting talked about his new married life, he couldn't help getting angry. He said that until now, he still hasn't consummated his marriage with the delicate Vietnamese bride.
Li Ting felt that although he didn't understand Vietnamese and the girl didn't speak Chinese, he believed he treated the girl well. "After returning to China, I haven't worked properly. In less than a month, I spent nearly 2,000 yuan on her." Li Ting complained that even so, the girl was still very cold towards him, "She always turns her back to me and sends messages on her phone."
On February 2, Li Ting suddenly found that the girl had disappeared from his temporary residence. It wasn't until the next day that he learned that the girl had run onto the street alone that day, claiming she had been "abused" and sought protection from the police.
On February 7, at the request of the police, "Chen Yuqiongying," who had been away from home for five days, met with Li Ting again. The police said that the girl insisted on returning to her home in Vietnam, but the police did not find any evidence of abuse, so this was still a marital dispute within the cross-border couple. After multiple coordination efforts, the girl temporarily moved into Li Ting's mother's rented place in Shanghai and still refuses to have any contact with Li Ting.
Now, what Li Ting worries about most is that if the girl insists on returning to Vietnam, his "gift money" will be wasted. More seriously, unless the girl assists him in handling the divorce procedures, once the girl returns to Vietnam, as a "married" person, he won't be able to get married again.
