Four Key Points for Men's Spring Skin Care

Men are more likely than women to engage in various forms of arduous physical labor under tough conditions. Working in dirty and tiring environments, their skin is more prone to contamination, darkening, and roughness. Therefore, men should pay more attention to the scientific and equitable care and maintenance of their skin. Here are four key points for male skincare in spring:

1. **Proper Shaving**

Men's beards grow quickly, and some have particularly thick ones that require frequent shaving and grooming. Shaving should be done in the morning when the face and skin are relaxed. Choose high-quality shaving creams or soaps with minimal irritation and gentle shaving water. Clean your face first, allowing the pores to relax and open up while softening the beard before starting to shave. When operating, follow the order from the sideburns, cheeks, neck to around the lips and chin. After shaving, wash your face with warm water, then rinse it with cold water to help the opened pores contract back to normal. Afterwards, apply some moisturizing lotion or cream to soothe the skin and reduce discomfort. Additionally, avoid pulling out facial hair with your hands or tweezers, as this can lead to bacterial infections causing skin diseases such as folliculitis, boils, or pore inversion, which can damage the skin.

2. **No Smoking**

To maintain a clean and radiant complexion, men must quit smoking. Cigarettes contain multiple harmful substances such as nicotine, tar, and carbon monoxide, all of which harm health and make the skin appear dull and lifeless. Habitual smokers may experience a grayish and dry complexion, more wrinkles, signs of premature aging, yellowish-black teeth, weakened vision and hearing, and even cancer in severe cases.

3. **Sun Protection and Frost Prevention**

Men who frequently work or exercise outdoors need to protect themselves from the sun in summer and from frostbite in winter. When heading out during summer, don't forget to bring along sunscreen lotions or creams to prevent sunburn. Experts believe that skin protection from UV rays should start in spring, despite the absence of summer's intense heat. Spring weather is often dry and windy with clear skies and fewer clouds, making ultraviolet rays extremely strong. Thus, sunscreen products can be used starting in April. During the cold winter months, apply some oil or anti-freeze cream before going outside to prevent frostbite or chapped skin. Before bedtime, apply some moisturizing cream. If your lips are dry and cracked, you can use lip balm to ensure the skin gets sufficient nourishment and remains hydrated and lustrous.

4. **Regular Massage**

Massaging helps remove aged cells from the skin’s surface promptly, promotes facial blood circulation, improves skin respiration, enhances the secretion of sebaceous glands and sweat glands to increase skin nutrition, and boosts the vitality of deep skin cells, thereby making the skin glossy and elastic. The method for massaging is as follows: First, apply some massage cream on your face, then use your fingers to gently circle upward following the texture of the facial skin. Perform this massage every morning and evening after washing your face, for about ten minutes each time. After the massage, clean your face with clear water, pat it dry, and then apply toner to finish.
