Reporters learned from Chongqing Meteorological Department and the municipal water conservancy department yesterday (the 28th) that, in the early part of this month, drought had appeared in some districts and counties (autonomous counties) of Chongqing, and because there has not been heavy rain recently, the drought is still continuing. The number of districts and counties suffering from the drought will increase. According to meteorological monitoring statistics from Chongqing Meteorological Department, since February 1st, the average precipitation in the whole city was 7.6 mm, which was 60% less than the same period in previous years. Among the 38 districts and counties in the whole city, Fengjie and Wushan received no precipitation. Except for Xiushan (23.6 mm), the precipitation in other places was all less than 20 mm, especially in the northeast and central areas where the precipitation was significantly less. Starting on the 24th, Chongqing experienced a rainfall process, but the amount of rain was small, with most areas receiving only a few millimeters. Wanzhou, Yunyang, Fengjie, Wushan, Wuxi, as well as Qijiang, Fuling, and Shizhu basically received no rain, so it did not help much to alleviate the drought for crops or restore water storage in projects. According to data published by Chongqing Water Conservancy Department, as of the 27th, 16 districts and counties in the whole city have experienced drought, affecting 534,300 mu of crops. 191,900 people and 86,500 large livestock are temporarily experiencing drinking water difficulties due to the drought, increasing by 92,100 people and 37,700 heads respectively compared to the statistics at the beginning of February, mainly concentrated in areas such as Qijiang, Fengdu, Nanchuan, and Fuling where precipitation has been severely insufficient since last year. Currently, 967,300 mu of paddy fields in the whole city lack water, and 644,100 mu of dry land lack moisture. It is understood that in order to timely collect and understand the drought situation throughout the city and scientifically and effectively organize drought relief actions, the Chongqing Flood Control and Drought Relief Command Office has organized three working groups, which will soon go to severely drought-affected areas to conduct drought inspections and provide drought relief guidance.
