In June 2011, Pi Mou and Zhao Mou, while watching TV programs at home, accidentally saw someone using the switcheroo method to steal from hotels. Thus, they decided to use the same method to make money in Beijing.
After arriving in Beijing, Pi Mou and Zhao Mou called themselves managers, hired a black car, and started deceiving people in various hotels. Usually, they would drive around looking for targets. When they chose a hotel, both Pi Mou and Zhao Mou would enter the hotel's merchandise department together. If the server was a young woman in her twenties, the two would start their act. "Give me four cartons of soft Zhonghua!" At the same time, Pi Mou would also request some good tea. When the server brought the items, Pi Mou would excuse himself by saying he didn't want anyone to see the gifts, asking the server to find a box for packaging. Meanwhile, Zhao Mou would ask the server to write a detailed receipt. While the server was busy writing the receipt, Pi Mou would quickly hide the cigarettes in his clothes and immediately seal the box with tape. Then, Zhao Mou would leave under the pretext of checking other places, and Pi Mou would follow suit by claiming he needed to call a car. Eventually, the two were caught by the police.
It is understood that between June and July, Pi Mou and Zhao Mou stole cigarettes worth over 14,000 yuan using the same method. Currently, both have been sentenced to four years in prison for theft and fined 4,000 yuan each.
