Changsha, Hunan - In their last winter vacation before graduation, senior students Wu Liqiang and Li Jin from Hunan University of Science and Technology embarked on a journey to remote mountainous areas in Guizhou to take free family portraits for local impoverished families. During this process, they also used Weibo to do their best in helping a child with congenital heart disease.
On January 15, Wu Liqiang and Li Jin set off together from Xiangtan. Together, they had less than 1000 yuan. On their way to Guizhou, there was one time they camped by a small river for the night to save 40 yuan on accommodation fees. Along the way, they kept taking photos for the locals while trying to minimize expenses as much as possible, but the 1000 yuan was quickly spent. At a coal mine in Bijie, Guizhou, they stopped to work odd jobs and took photos for the miners, earning about 1000 yuan in wages. "During the entire Spring Festival period, we took about 70 family portraits, costing around 2000 yuan, mainly for travel expenses," said Wu Liqiang.
After visiting Xiaohong's family, Wu Liqiang and Li Jin posted her family situation on the Sina Weibo account "Free Family Portraits" and quickly garnered attention from netizens. Since the information was posted on Weibo, social forces and enthusiastic individuals have extended a helping hand to Li Xiaohong. Currently, the boy is receiving treatment in Beijing.
