Producer: The product complies with national standards
Regarding this matter, a staff member surnamed Sheng from Hangzhou Wahaha Group Co., Ltd. told reporters, "We also only learned about this matter this morning through the Internet. Regarding the results of the experiment conducted by this netizen, we will not make any comments. However, one thing is certain: our formula and additive content comply with national standards." As for rumors on the Internet, he stated that relevant departments would provide explanations.
The Morning Post reported: "Can nutritional fast line be dried to serve as a condom?" Such news is incredible. Recently, a netizen revealed that they had conducted an experiment where they poured nutritional fast line into a plate and let it dry in the shade. By morning, they found it had formed a latex-like substance.
Following the diagram, the reporter also conducted a similar experiment but found that the nutritional fast line did not undergo significant changes when dried in the shade. Subsequently, the reporter contacted Hangzhou Wahaha Group Co., Ltd. via telephone. Staff members indicated that the formulation and additive content of nutritional fast line meet national standards. Regarding rumors on the Internet, relevant departments would provide explanations.
Could it be due to the cold weather that prevented it from drying?
Firstly, take a flat-bottomed porcelain plate, wash it clean, and dry it thoroughly. Then slowly pour the original flavor nutritional fast line into the plate until the liquid covers the entire bottom. Place it aside and wait quietly for changes. An hour passed, two hours passed... there were no changes.
Recently, such a message has been circulating online: A netizen conducted an experiment where they poured Wahaha Nutritional Fast Line yogurt drink into a small plate. After leaving it out overnight to dry in the shade, they discovered the next morning that a thin latex-like layer had formed in the plate, similar to the material used in condoms.
Wahaha Company explained that after consulting experts, they provided a food science explanation for the gelation mechanism: (1) Milk protein contains a large amount of hydrophobic groups. When milk is heated during production, hydrophobic interactions cause proteins to aggregate, forming a loose gel network which turns into a semi-transparent film after dehydration. (2) Milk protein contains a large amount of cysteine and cystine amino acids which polymerize when heated, forming a continuous covalent network structure upon cooling. This forms a semi-transparent film after dehydration (drying or air-drying), like egg white protein, whey protein, and β-lactoglobulin gel films. Due to the high milk protein content in Nutritional Fast Line products, its dehydration-induced gelation is a normal protein gelation phenomenon.
Intern Zhang Yujie carried out this experiment.
With various questions in mind, the reporter contacted Wahaha Group's Hefei branch.
On December 20th, Wahaha Group's official website published relevant information, making a statement regarding the entire incident.
After an entire night, the reporter observed that the beverage at the bottom of the plate seemed to have undergone no significant changes, remaining a white liquid without forming the rumored latex-like substance.
Experiment: Little change after being dried overnight
Following the diagrams online, the reporter also conducted a similar experiment. Wahaha Nutritional Fast Line comes in various flavors. The reporter strictly followed the diagram and bought a bottle of the original orange-flavored drink.
This experimental result caused quite a stir among many netizens, leading to widespread discussion. Some netizens expressed, "Nutritional Fast Line has always held an important place in my heart, and I often buy it to drink. But now hearing this kind of news, I'm very upset. How can I dare to drink it in the future?" However, some netizens doubted the authenticity of the claim, stating, "How could a beverage turn into a condom? It's impossible."
A staff member highly questioned the motive of the netizen who conducted this experiment, saying, "We don't know why this netizen chose to do this. Under normal circumstances, when we drink beverages, we wouldn't choose to pour them into a plate." She suspected someone was deliberately causing trouble.
