According to foreign media reports, the world-renowned computer vendor Dell officially launched its VoIP service in Canada earlier this month, aiming to secure a place in the global VoIP market. It is reported that Dell named the service Dell Voice, which is supported by the VoIP company Fongo and piloted in Canada, providing users with a Canadian phone number. It allows free calls within 30 large cities including Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, as well as hundreds of smaller cities. In terms of fees for international calls, it is even cheaper than Skype. Following Microsoft's jaw-dropping acquisition of Skype, the world's largest VoIP provider last year for $8.5 billion, all sorts of internet giants like Google and Facebook have started operating VoIP services, making VoIP one of the hottest topics in today's internet application and network communication fields. The trend of VoIP becoming the new mainstream public communication method is becoming increasingly evident. Industry insiders introduced that due to considerations of protecting the voice business income of operators, China's telecommunications authorities have always strictly prohibited the development of VoIP. The three operators - Mobile, Telecom, and Unicom - are allowed to conduct IP telephony services but are limited to Phone-Phone telephone services only. VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) is a technology mainly based on IP telephony and corresponding value-added services. Its greatest advantage lies in the extensive use of the Internet and the globally interconnected IP environment, providing more and better services than traditional ones.
