According to China Weather Network, after a brief sunny spell over the weekend, rainy weather returned to Shanghai yesterday (February 20). It was reported that due to the influence of the earlier damp and cold weather, outbound "warm-seeking" tours have become one of the major highlights of Shanghai's early spring tourism. The Shanghai Meteorological Observatory forecasted that for the next 5~7 days, the city will experience intermittent cloudy and rainy weather, with temperatures first rising and then falling. This morning, light rain fell again in Shanghai (source: Sina Weibo). According to reports from Jiefang Niuwang, due to the persistent damp and cold weather in Shanghai, many residents opted to travel to Hong Kong, Macao, Southeast Asia, Australia, and other places to "seek warmth". Staff at the Hongqiao Border Inspection Station introduced that since February, due to the continuous low temperatures, the number of passengers departing from Hongqiao Airport to Japan and South Korea was only half of those going to Hong Kong and Macao. Among group travelers, tourists heading to Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, and Australia accounted for nearly 90% of the total group travel, while those traveling to Japan and South Korea only made up 10%. Compared to the booming Southeast Asian tours, Japan and South Korea tours were significantly less popular. Over the previous weekend, Shanghai enjoyed two sunny days. However, this did not last long, as rainy weather resumed last evening. Monitoring data showed that from 17:00 yesterday to 07:00 today, Xuhui recorded 5 mm of precipitation, with Minhang recording the highest among districts at 4.4 mm. Despite the presence of rain, the lowest temperature across the city this morning was generally around 7℃, an increase of 6~7℃ compared to yesterday. The Shanghai Meteorological Observatory predicted that under the combined influence of cold and warm air masses, the city is expected to experience more overcast and rainy weather for the next 5~7 days. A moderate rainfall event is expected on February 22-23, followed by mainly overcast to partly cloudy skies on February 24-25 with occasional light rain in some areas. Another noticeable rainfall event may occur on February 26-27. Regarding temperatures, due to the weak northern cold air mass staying further north and the active southwest warm moist air flow, temperatures are expected to rise slightly before February 24, with the maximum daily temperatures generally ranging between 12~14℃. Afterward, influenced by the southward movement of weak cold air, temperatures will drop slightly, with the minimum temperature dropping to around 3℃. Due to high humidity, insufficient sunshine, and a lingering cold sensation, residents are advised not to hastily shed their winter clothing. Frequent weather changes can easily lead to colds, so it is necessary to continue wearing warmer clothes for a period. Additionally, due to significant warming at lower altitudes, high humidity near the surface, and weak winds, low visibility weather conditions are expected in the eastern coastal areas and the Yangtze River estuary region of Shanghai from February 21 to 23.
