February 2nd, Dragon Raises its Head

Looking at the logs, I found that I wrote merely a few articles last year. I criticize myself for being lazy. On this auspicious day, I casually write something and wish all the people around me good fortune, happiness, and health! There is a myth circulating in the northern folk of our country. It says that when Empress Wu became the emperor, she angered the Jade Emperor, who ordered the four sea dragon kings not to rain on the human world for three years. Soon, the dragon king in charge of the Milky Way heard the cries of the common people and saw the sad scene of people starving to death. Worried about the loss of humanity's way out, he defied the Jade Emperor's order and rained on the human world. When the Jade Emperor knew this, he sent the Dragon King down to the mortal world and pressed him under a big mountain as punishment. A stele was erected on the mountain: "The Dragon King violated the heavenly rules by raining, and should be punished by the human world for thousands of autumns; If you want to return to the Lingxiao Pavilion, wait until the golden beans bloom." In order to save the Dragon King, people looked everywhere for blooming golden beans. By the second day of the second lunar month next year, while people were airing their corn seeds, they thought that these corns were like golden beans, and if they were fried and bloomed, wouldn't it be the blooming of golden beans? Therefore, every household made popcorn and set up an altar with incense in the yard, offering the bloomed "golden beans". The Dragon King looked up and knew that the people were saving him, so he shouted loudly to the Jade Emperor: "The golden beans have bloomed, let me out quickly!" The Jade Emperor saw that every household in the human world had golden bean flowers blooming in their courtyards, so he had no choice but to issue an edict to summon the Dragon King back to heaven to continue bringing clouds and rain to the human world. Since then, it has become a custom in the folk to eat popcorn every February 2nd. Of course, there are other different versions of the legend, so the customs in each place may vary depending on the region. Anyway, today is February 2nd, and the custom here is to definitely get a haircut, symbolizing good luck for the whole year. In the first month, my son's hair was really getting a bit long. The elders said that if a child's hair passes over their ears, they are prone to heatiness and illness. Seeing sweat beads on my son's hair after playing, I couldn't bear it anymore, so I cut his hair (this is to explain that since my son was born, I have been cutting his hair, ha ha, now I am quite skilled). But I left a little hair on the top of his head and made a small style, one for aesthetics, and the other for leaving some hair to be cut on February 2nd. When I got up in the morning and wanted to cut my son's hair, my husband said, "It looks pretty nice, don't cut it, just trim a couple of strands for meaning." I fully took into account the opinions of the masses, so I cut a little long hair behind my son's ears and also cut a few strands of my husband's hair. It is just for an auspicious meaning, hoping that in the new year, my family will always have its head held high like a dragon, and everything will go smoothly and as desired, especially my baby, growing up healthy and happy!
