Welcome to post comments. Now, the national route 308 through which children go to school has been equipped with traffic lights, but Zhang Guangcheng, aged 83, still insists on escorting the children every day. Moreover, he has also included the children from neighboring villages of Han Village, Dai Village, and Zhangxin Village in his escort range.
In the past 17 years, he has already worn out four small red flags. When talking about this nickname, Zhang Guangcheng starts to tell from 17 years ago.
The torch Zhang Village does not have a school, so the village children must attend the He Li Primary School on the opposite side of the village. This school road is only 1 kilometer long, but it requires crossing the national highway 308, which is 40 meters wide. There are many vehicles passing through the national highway, and they travel at high speeds. In the past, there were student accidents involving scratches and collisions by cars every year in the village.
Recently, in the commendation activity for the third national moral model, a total of 10 people from Shandong Province were selected as moral model candidates. Zhang Guangcheng's silent adherence to a promise made 17 years ago enabled him to smoothly become a candidate for honesty and trustworthiness.
How to ensure the safety of the children? After much thought, Zhang Guangcheng finally came up with a good idea. He went to the market and bought a watch and a piece of red cloth, sewing the red cloth onto a bamboo pole to create a bright little red flag. From then on, Old Zhang would calibrate his watch every day, waiting half an hour earlier at the intersection, shaking the little red flag to escort the students across the road.
Zhang Guangcheng, a villager of Torch Zhang Village in the Economic Development Zone of Qihe County, is now 83 years old. Over the span of 17 years, he has escorted more than 600 children from four surrounding villages to and from school, without a single traffic accident occurring. The children affectionately call him "Grandpa Escort."
Seeing the child lying in bed moaning and the grieving parents beside the bed, Zhang Guangcheng, at the age of 66, pushed open the door of the village committee office, "From now on, I will be responsible for picking up and dropping off the children when they go to school, ensuring that no accidents happen to them on the way!"
When Zhang Guangcheng saw this situation, he felt pain in his heart. For the safety of the children, parents had to pick them up and drop them off every day, which delayed their work. "If we could gather the children from the village together and find someone to escort them across the road, it would be great, but who would be willing to do this job?" While the parents were discussing how to pick up and drop off the children, a tragic news came - another child in the village was hit by a large truck and had their leg broken on the way to school.

During these 17 years, Zhang Guangcheng has escorted over 600 children, without a single traffic accident. Many of the children he initially escorted have now graduated from university. Whenever they return to Torch Zhang Village, they always run to the intersection to greet Zhang Guangcheng and affectionately call him "Grandpa Escort."
Originally applying to escort the children to school was a good thing, but initially, the parents were all worried. To fulfill this "mission" well, Zhang Guangcheng, then 66 years old, visited each household to give the parents assurances, eventually gaining their trust.
