DUBAI (Reuters) - Emirates airline, one of the sponsors of FIFA tournaments including the World Cup, said it was disappointed by the corruption scandal that has erupted at soccer's governing body. "Emirates, like all football fans around the world, is concerned by the questions surrounding the administration of the beautiful game," Boutros Boutros, senior vice president for corporate communications at Emirates, said in a statement emailed to Reuters. The airline's partnership with FIFA began with the 2006 World Cup in Germany and its contract as an official sponsor runs until the end of the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. "We hope these issues are resolved as quickly as possible and that the outcome will be in the interest of the game and sport in general," Boutros added. The statement did not clarify whether the airline was reviewing its association with FIFA. FIFA President Sepp Blatter, facing a deepening corruption scandal including allegations that Qatar 'bought' the right to host the 2022 World Cup, refused to call it a crisis and described the problems as local difficulties on Monday. Blatter is set to run unopposed for a fourth term at a FIFA election on Wednesday after his only rival in the ballot, Asian football chief Mohamed bin Hammam, withdrew on Sunday and was later suspended by FIFA's own ethics committee amid cash-for-votes allegations. However, Transparency International, the global anti-corruption watchdog, called off elections scheduled for Tuesday and the English Football Association called for the FIFA vote to be delayed because of the ongoing crisis. Emirates' comments followed those made on Monday by corporate sponsors Coca-Cola Co and German sportswear maker Adidas, which warned that concerns over corruption within FIFA could damage the game.
