Good news came from Hebei Iron and Steel Group: Handan Iron & Steel Company's west zone steel plant successfully trial-produced automotive phase transformation induced plasticity steel TRIP380/590. After testing, its chemical composition conforms to standards, and the quality of the cast slab is completely qualified. The successful smelting of this product will further enrich and optimize the automotive steel product structure of Handan Iron & Steel, heralding the start of advancing towards 780 MPa and above levels of high-strength steel.
It is reported that the car plates rolled from this product have higher strength, elongation performance, and collision absorption performance compared with other same-level high-strength steels, and can significantly reduce the body thickness and lower fuel consumption. They are commonly used in automotive bumpers, chassis, and other anti-collision areas. This steel also has excellent high-speed mechanical properties and fatigue resistance, making it highly favored by automakers and possessing good market prospects.
This steel grade belongs to the series of automotive steel products that Handan Iron & Steel focuses on developing. Due to its special composition, high control levels are required for each process such as converter, refining, and continuous casting. For this reason, the west zone steel plant formulated a detailed process plan, overcame difficulties such as continuous pulling of different steel grades, ensuring the first successful smelting of this steel grade.
