On the afternoon of April 15th, local time, Inter Milan Club's official website announced that central defender Cordoba had undergone surgery on his left knee meniscus. Accompanied by Condi, the head of Inter Milan's medical team, Cordoba went to San Matteo Hospital (IRCCS Policlinico San Matteo) where Dr. Benazzo performed an arthroscopic surgery on his left knee meniscus.

Football Market revealed that Cordoba might leave Inter Milan to join Atalanta this summer in a possible transfer deal. Currently leading Serie B, Atalanta needs experienced veterans like Cordoba to lead their backline as they prepare to return to Serie A next season. If this transfer becomes a reality, then Inter Milan's 2-5 loss against Schalke in the UEFA Champions League quarter-final at home would be Cordoba's last game for the Nerazzurri.

After this left knee surgery, Cordoba has basically ruled himself out for the rest of the season. Although he is already 34 years old, the Colombian defender still participated in 22 Serie A matches and 5 UEFA Champions League games for Inter Milan this season. Especially after Samuel suffered a serious injury, it was Cordoba who stepped up to form Inter Milan's starting central defensive partnership with Lucio. However, with age, Cordoba's condition has been continuously declining.

Cordoba suffered a severe injury in February 2008 when he tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee. Although he has recovered, his left knee has since become problematic. Previously, Cordoba had already felt discomfort in his left knee, but due to Inter Milan's tight defensive personnel, as the club's vice-captain, Cordoba gritted his teeth and continued to participate in matches. It wasn't until Samuel's recent recovery that relieved the defensive personnel crisis, allowing Cordoba to decide on undergoing surgery to thoroughly address his injury issues.
