Hard-boiled egg yolk bounces

Chutian Metropolis Daily News (Reporter Guangmingbao Liu) - An inedible egg yolk that bounces when thrown on the table has left a resident of Wuchang's Gongzheng Road, Mr. Liu, baffled.

Mr. Liu explained that yesterday morning, while preparing breakfast for his family, he boiled three eggs. Halfway through eating, his 2-year-old daughter suddenly stopped and said she couldn't bite through the egg. Upon inspecting the egg from his daughter’s hand, he noticed that most of the white had been eaten, but the yolk was almost completely intact. He then scooped out the yolk and lightly tossed it onto the table, where it bounced repeatedly, reaching up to about 30 centimeters high at its highest point.

When the reporter gently pressed this egg yolk, it felt quite resilient and indeed bounced when thrown on the table.

Mr. Liu mentioned that this particular egg was purchased the previous day at a nearby supermarket, where he bought approximately 2 kilograms of eggs in total. He wondered if the unusual texture of the yolk—being hard to chew and able to bounce—indicated a quality issue with the eggs.

Yesterday, the supermarket's manager, Mr. Wei, stated that these eggs were sourced from a poultry farm in Xinzhou. He has arranged to meet with the farm’s staff to discuss the matter.
