On February 10, Dongshan County once again mobilized more than 300 cadres and citizens to participate in land preparation and tree pit digging activities. In recent days, over 1,600 mu (about 265 acres) of tree pits have been dug. It is reported that the county has already prepared 800,000 saplings of various kinds, and this year plans to invest 30 million yuan in greening funds. This is a practical action by the county to steadily promote the construction of an ecological tourism island.
Dongshan is fully committed to creating a "Charming Dongshan, Happy Homeland." The county government has established an ecological greening investment mechanism. In the past three years, it has actually invested more than 1.5 billion yuan in ecological greening construction. This year, the county government has decided to increase its investment in greening funds and elevate the tree-planting month to an obligatory tree-planting season (February to April). The focus will be on completing six major greening projects, including the port road greening, soil erosion control, green development zone creation, etc., covering nearly 10,000 mu (about 1,647 acres). Additionally, the responsibility for signing ecological greening responsibility agreements has been extended from the seven towns across the county to two development zones and more than ten key departments, clarifying tasks and assigning responsibilities accordingly. Just after the Spring Festival, the county vigorously promoted the ecological greening of "one belt, two axes, four corridors, nine lines, thirteen parks," launching the "four green projects" construction of green cities, green towns and villages, green channels, and green barriers.
With the improvement in living standards and the continuous advancement of new rural construction, people in modern family courtyards like to plant trees and flowers, create green landscapes, and produce a relaxing and comfortable living environment. Courtyard greening requires comprehensive design from both scientific and artistic perspectives. If plants are planted randomly in the courtyard, the effect of landscape art and beautification cannot be achieved. Therefore, when greening, one must consider the size of the courtyard and plan accordingly—large spaces need larger designs, while smaller ones should be cleverly arranged to achieve the ideal effect. If the courtyard is small, it is not suitable to plant too many large and robust trees, as this would obstruct the view and inconvenience personal activities. For courtyards surrounded by many buildings with weak light due to short periods of direct sunlight, shade-tolerant shrubs such as azaleas, camellias, maple trees, Buddha's hand, and grapes can be planted. Alternatively, potted plants like tortoise shell bamboo, Chinese evergreen, spider plants, palm bamboo, sword lily, calla lily, oranges, etc., can be placed in the courtyard or around it.
