Intel Capital Invests in Security Device Company Mocana
Security technology startup Mocana recently announced it has received a strategic investment from Intel Capital, though the specific amount remains undisclosed. Mocana has completed three rounds of financing so far, with security giant Symantec making a strategic investment in the company last year.
Mocana aims to protect various types of smart devices, ranging from automobiles to smart meters. This is the reason why Intel Capital decided to invest in the company. In August last year, Intel announced the acquisition of security software company McAfee for approximately $7.68 billion, representing a 60% premium over the closing price on the previous trading day before the announcement.
Mocana was founded in 2004 and is headquartered in San Francisco, USA, with currently 80 employees. It provides software and services through the cloud or connected data centers to secure smart meters, smartphones, sensors, and more. Mocana's technology helps businesses encrypt wireless data, detect and isolate malicious programs, and enables clients to control data based on employee locations, preventing the leakage of critical information.
Mocana CEO Adrian Turner stated that their products have already protected tens of millions of devices, with over 180 companies utilizing their technology, including Intel, General Electric, Cisco, Freescale Semiconductor, Samsung, LG, Siemens, among others, covering every sector of the modern economy. Turner also mentioned that the company holds a substantial number of patents.
