Recall of Japanese home appliances "omits" China as a matter of course

Japan's Daikin has announced the recall of 53 models of air purifiers, but the Chinese market is not involved. In recent years, it has almost become standard practice for Japanese home appliance recalls to "exclude" China. Recently, Daikin posted a notice on its official website stating: "Our company has decided to recall the aforementioned products as the humidifier cleaner units produced from September 2007 to August 2011 may overheat and cause smoke or fire." The notice did not specify the countries and regions involved in the recall. A relevant person in charge of Daikin China stated that the recalled products are from the Flowlight Energy series of air purifiers. The Flowlight Energy series sold in the Chinese market are different models from those being recalled in Japan, so there is no need for a recall in China. It has become an industry norm for home appliance recalls to omit China. In October last year, Sony announced a global recall of 1.6 million Bravia brand LCD TVs, but in the Chinese market, there was only a preventive inspection instead of a recall. In January 2010, due to potential safety hazards of refrigerator doors falling off, Japan's Sharp announced a global recall of 48 types of refrigerators, with an estimated 430,000 still in use, but claimed that this batch did not involve the Chinese market. In September of the same year, Japan's Toshiba announced the recall of 41,000 Satellite Lite T series laptops, but China was not within the scope of the recall.
