A few years ago, Ms. Yuan's family bought a new house and was one of the first to install hydronic heating. Back then, very few families had installed such systems. However, after living with it for a number of years, Ms. Yuan found many unsatisfactory aspects about the water-based heating system: the operating costs were unbearably high, there were two pipe issues that took quite some effort to repair, which made Ms. Yuan somewhat fearful. Meanwhile, her neighbors who installed heating systems after her opted for the more advanced 23°C Ecological Floor Heating System, which is lightweight, energy-saving, and emits beneficial far-infrared heat.

By comparison, the hydronic heating system in Ms. Yuan’s home, once envied by others, now seemed outdated and cumbersome. She heard that even fully decorated homes could easily have the 23°C system installed, so after paying off her mortgage, the first thing she did was replace the hydronic heating with the 23°C Ecological Floor Heating System.

She initially worried that the installation process would affect the shape of her wooden floor. However, the staff from 23°C reassured her. They explained that everyone was rushing to add floor heating before winter arrived, and they had already installed it in countless old houses, making them highly experienced. Indeed, it only took half a day to complete the installation in Ms. Yuan’s home. The restored floor looked completely different from before, and the room height remained unaffected, showing no signs of newly laid electric heating panels underneath.

The 23°C staff also informed her that if she ever moved, she could dismantle the 23°C system and take it with her, as it can still be used elsewhere. With a 50-year lifespan, she would never need to replace her heating system again in her lifetime.

Floor heating, also known as underfloor heating, is primarily used for domestic铺设in geothermal environments and partial commercial ground decoration. Among the various types of wooden floors currently available on the market, the most suitable for floor heating are solid wood composite floors, followed by laminate floors and bamboo floors. Solid wood floors are generally not used as floor heating floors unless strict control measures are applied during installation.

The solid wood composite floors, recognized by numerous consumers and industry experts as suitable for floor heating, can withstand various temperature changes and unstable moisture levels due to their cross-laminated structure and pre-stressed surface board technology. Under normal circumstances, the surface board bears pre-stress, which can offset the tensile stress generated in a geothermal environment. After the stresses cancel each other out, this prevents cracking on the surface of the floor heating boards.

However, not all solid wood composite floors can maintain good self-regulating functions in floor heating environments. Solid wood composite floors or laminate floors that do not use pre-stressed technology often exhibit problems such as cracking, curling, and arching. Therefore, it is recommended that consumers choose well-known solid wood composite floor brands (such as Life Family, Jusheng, etc.) or renowned laminate floor brands (such as Filingger, Saint André, Life Family, etc.) when selecting solid wood composite floors for floor heating.

Consumers often fall into several misconceptions when choosing floor heating boards: (1) the thicker the surface layer, the better; (2) the larger the grooves on the back of the floor, the better; (3) the better the thermal conductivity of the moisture barrier film. In fact, these assumptions are contrary to the actual working principles of floor heating boards. Mr. Wang Jun, an expert committee member of the China Forest Products Industry Association, provided the following analysis of these three misconceptions regarding floor heating boards:

**Misconception One: The Thicker the Surface Layer, the Better**

Some consumers blindly pursue a thicker surface layer, wider boards, and longer boards when selecting multi-layered solid wood composite floors. In reality, the thicker the surface layer of a multi-layered solid wood composite floor, the more pronounced the characteristics of solid wood become. During environmental changes, the stress generated by dry shrinkage and wet expansion in the surface layer increases, leading to a higher chance of floor deformation and surface layer cracking. The wider the multi-layered solid wood composite floor, the larger the gap produced during dry shrinkage. Similarly, since multi-layered solid wood composite floors expand and contract in both length and width directions, the longer the floor, the larger the gap at the ends produced during dry shrinkage.

Later, companies like SK and LG also developed their own brands.
