Our reporter (Sun Siya) - Neighbors from the eastern and western courtyards got into an argument after one of them splashed dirty water in a common area. As a result, 61-year-old Zhang Deyun struck an elderly couple with a wooden stick. Yesterday, it was reported that the First Intermediate People's Court sentenced Zhang Deyun to one year in prison for intentional injury.
Zhang Deyun's daughter-in-law recounted that at around 2 PM on January 30, 2011, she poured out some laundry water towards the west side of the courtyard and was scolded by her seventy-year-old neighbors, Mr. Li and his wife. She retorted, and in response, they also took a bucket of water and splashed it outside her door. Zhang Deyun then grabbed a wooden stick and chased Mr. Li, striking him on the head. Subsequently, Mr. Li’s wife, who came to help, was also injured.
Upon examination, Mr. Li was found to have sustained minor injuries, while his wife suffered more serious injuries. The court determined that Zhang Deyun had committed intentional injury, sentencing him to one year in prison and ordering him to pay over 8,000 yuan in compensation to the victims.
