Yesterday, reporters learned that the 2011 Guangzhou Mid-Autumn Cultural Festival will take place from September 2 to 12 at Grandview Plaza in Tianhe District. It is reported that this year’s Hong Kong and Macao Mid-Autumn Cultural Festival brings together a variety of exhibitors for the display and sale of mooncakes. Exhibitors have revealed that during the event, various mooncake procurement incentives will be implemented.

Meanwhile, the festival will feature a Gold Medal Mooncake Exhibition from Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao, a Mid-Autumn Festival Souvenirs Forum, and a Specialty Food Exchange Zone among six activities. It is reported that at the festival site, there will be a massive mooncake weighing nearly one ton for thousands of people to share. There will also be a competition to see who can eat the most mooncakes. Participants not only get to eat mooncakes but also learn how to make them.

The Mid-Autumn Cultural Festival will host a DIY parent-child interaction activity. Additionally, a specialty food exchange zone will be opened. Besides mooncakes, visitors can enjoy a variety of local delicacies, heritage folk handicrafts, and more. The organizing committee will hold a lantern design competition where award-winning works will become part of a palace lantern exhibition, hanging continuously at Grandview Mall. Winners will also receive prizes worth millions from the organizing committee.

The lantern design competition entry campaign has officially begun. Participation can be by family or individual units. Participants should submit their works to the Engineering Department of Grandview Plaza Southeast Plaza on August 28 to 29.
