Report of Asia Heart Net (by reporter Wang Zi and correspondent Shen Dianrong): For many years, a sixty-year-old man has been stealing livestock in a rampant manner, involving over one million yuan, and was listed as an online fugitive. After fleeing to Karamay, he was captured.
The event started on December 30, 2010, when the elderly man came to the Jinlong Town Police Station in Karamay District to apply for a temporary residence permit. On that day, the police officers were conducting routine patrols when they discovered this elderly man who claimed to have just arrived in Jinlong Town from the local area to work. The man's evasive behavior made the police suspicious, so they brought him back to the police station under the pretext of applying for a temporary residence permit.
"Old man, please sit down for a moment. The seal for the temporary residence permit is on the second floor. I'll go get it," said two police officers after exchanging glances. One left while the other chatted with the elderly man.
The elderly man suddenly stood up from his chair and said, "I'll come back another day to apply for the temporary residence permit." As he spoke, he headed towards the door.
"The seal will be back soon. Please sit down for a while..." The officer quickly grabbed the elderly man, whose face became increasingly uneasy.
After checking in the public security database, the police found that the elderly man had the same name and similar appearance to an online fugitive. However, the photo of the online fugitive was that of a middle-aged man, while the person in front of them was a sixty-year-old man.
The online fugitive who resembled the elderly man was involved in multiple cases, including being a suspect in the XinYuan County "2010.11.28" major theft of livestock case, with an amount involved reaching over one million yuan.
The officer who went upstairs reported this situation to the leadership. After repeatedly comparing the photos of the elderly man and the fugitive, and verifying with the public security bureau of the case location, the police decided to confront the elderly man.
"Have you been to XinYuan County in Yili?"
"Yes."
"Have you heard about the theft of livestock that occurred there in November 2010?"
"No... I haven't heard..."
"That fugitive is not me!" After more than two hours, the elderly man lost his composure, angrily shouting this sentence before quietly saying, "I am him."
"I came to Karamay to lay low," the elderly man confessed. He not only stole himself but also helped other criminals hide and sell stolen cattle, sheep, and horses. From June to November 2010, he committed multiple crimes in XinYuan County and once stole fifteen horses in BoLe WenQuan County.
Currently, the elderly man has been handed over to the XinYuan County Public Security Bureau of Yili Prefecture.
