The "2011 L'Oréal Style Media Awards" was officially launched recently. This year's theme of the awards is "Micro Era, Shared Responsibility", highlighting the widespread influence of microblogging as a new media format and showcasing the social responsibility of the media in a new communication environment. This year, there are 16 awards, and registration is now open to all media nationwide. The final award ceremony will be held in Shanghai in early January 2012.
New awards focus on the "Micro" era
In 2011, the rapid rise of microblogging profoundly changed China's media landscape. Traditional media began to voice new opinions through microblogs, and many individuals established countless influential self-media platforms on this basis. Microblogging has increasingly become a multimedia communication platform for the public to receive and release information. Under the backdrop of the "Micro Era," whether it is traditional media or emerging microblog self-media, they have paid more attention to the cultural process of Chinese society. In the face of major social events, they have issued positive opinions, calling for social justice and morality, while showing concern for disadvantaged groups and promoting society towards a more civilized and advanced direction. This strong sense of social responsibility has also become the latest trend in the media.
As Paolo Gasparrini, President of L'Oréal (China), said: "Since its inception, the 'L'Oréal Style Media Awards' has been committed to reflecting the latest trends in Chinese media and showcasing the social responsibility of the media, recognizing the important contributions made by the media in spreading and promoting style and leading social progress."
This year, with the popularity of microblogging and the increasing sense of social responsibility in the media, the L'Oréal Style Media Awards keeps pace with the times, timely reflecting and presenting the constantly changing media environment.
Selection process highlights authoritative perspective
Since its establishment in 2003, the "L'Oréal Style Media Awards" has established high authority in the industry and among the public. This authority comes from a complete evaluation system refined over several years and a highly prestigious and professional panel of judges. Judges from previous editions of the "L'Oréal Style Media Awards" include authoritative figures from the media, academic, cultural, fashion, and government sectors, such as David Cao, Yang Lan, Yu Gongmin, Shen Hongfei, and Zhang Kangkang. This year's awards will similarly form a panel of 20 renowned individuals, providing a diversified perspective to professionally review China's media in 2011. To ensure the professionalism of the awards, the organizing committee has specially invited Fudan University School of Journalism and the Public Opinion Research Institute of Renmin University of China as academic support institutions, further ensuring the value of the awards.
Established in 2003 by L'Oréal, the world's largest cosmetics brand, the "L'Oréal Style Media Awards" is currently the only fashion media competition in China, aiming to recognize outstanding media contributions in spreading and leading fashion trends, creating a platform that fully leverages the power of trendsetting discourse. After several years of effort, the "L'Oréal Style Media Awards" has become a highly attention-grabbing and influential brand, and each annual award ceremony has become a major fashion event in the Chinese media industry. This year, the spirit of "Micro Era, Shared Responsibility" will surely leave a significant mark on the development process of Chinese media.
