The New Express - By reporter Jingjing Cao and correspondent Tianjian Xuan: A Guangdong籍 male, Jianzhong Deng, was prosecuted by the Tianhe District Procuratorate for impersonating a peacekeeping police officer online to meet multiple women, fabricating various reasons including going abroad for peacekeeping missions or lacking money to buy return tickets, thus committing fraud and sexual deception. The court recently sentenced the defendant to 6 years in prison in the first trial.

Jianzhong Deng, aged 39, has only a high school education and used to be a driver. According to the investigation, between January 2007 and July 2008, Deng met several women through QQ chat, then pretended to be a criminal police officer to gain the trust of 9 women, including Huang Hua (a pseudonym). He had sexual relations with some of the victims and defrauded them of a total of more than 62,000 yuan.

Deng usually met female netizens through QQ chat, lying that he was unmarried or had been divorced for five years, with his son having gone to Canada with his mother. During the chats, Deng claimed to be a policeman who frequently traveled for work and could not often go online, requesting to communicate via mobile phone or text messages instead. After gaining their trust, he pretended to be dating or even discussing marriage with the victims before deceiving them both financially and sexually.

In order to defraud money, Deng fabricated various reasons. For example: running out of phone credit while on business trips and being unable to recharge in other places; owing management fees for his house in Guangzhou while training in Zhaoqing; or not having money to buy plane tickets upon returning from overseas peacekeeping missions. All the victims believed him and quickly transferred money. During the trial, Deng admitted his guilt but refused to detail the specifics of his crimes, instead questioning in court why his wife brought their five-year-old daughter to attend as spectators.

Upon investigation, it was found that the victims were aged between 30-36, half of whom were divorced women. They stated that because Deng claimed to be a police officer, they felt he was honest during conversations and decided to interact with him. Some of the victimized women had questioned Deng's identity but were deceived by his lies.
