Kinchin News (by reporter Wang Fang, Monday and intern Weng Shaojun) - In the dark of night, by the roadside, a man openly snatched a bag and fled as soon as he succeeded. Witnessing this scene, passers-by, neighborhood residents who heard the news, taxi drivers, and even guests from nearby late-night snack stalls all joined in the chase for the bandit, creating a scene of "chasing the bandit" with everyone mobilized.
At 10 PM the previous evening on Wang'ai Road in Jiangdong, a bandit was forced into a dead-end after snatching a bag and jumped into the river to hide. Eventually, with the help of a melon farmer who rowed his boat, the police of Baihe Police Station searched the river carefully for two hours and arrested the man who had snatched the bag.
The bandit snatched the bag at night, and passing citizens spontaneously chased him.
The incident occurred at around 10 PM on Wang'ai Road and Siyan Street intersection in Jiangdong.
Suddenly, an ear-piercing scream cut through the silent night. "Someone's snatching a bag! Someone's snatching a bag!" Two women stood by the roadside tangled with a man. The man kept pulling on the bag held by one of them, while she fought desperately to hold onto it. Due to her slight build, she only managed to hold on for a few seconds before the bag was forcibly taken away.
After succeeding in snatching the bag, the man fled immediately. The woman stood in place shouting for help.
First group: Passing citizens, neighborhood residents
Threatening with a knife proved ineffective, the bandit ran madly.
Hearing the shouts, some passing citizens and residents from nearby neighborhoods near the crime scene didn't hesitate and all joined the pursuit of the bandit.
According to the police's recollection, among the righteous people was a taxi driver who happened to be driving past the crime scene with passengers. Upon hearing that someone had openly snatched a bag, the taxi driver became furious and tried to step on the gas pedal to chase after the bandit. However, considering the passenger in the car, the driver hesitated. Unbeknownst to him, the passenger was also a warm-hearted person who waved a large hand saying, "Go quickly! Don't worry about me! Chase!"
Thus, a group of righteous citizens chased after the direction the bandit fled. Seeing a crowd coming towards him, the bandit immediately pulled out a dagger and wildly swung it around while shouting loudly, "No one approach, or else I won't be polite!"
Faced with the desperate situation of the bandit, none of the surrounding citizens retreated. Instead, they formed an encircling posture. Realizing this tactic wasn't effective, the bandit continued his frantic run north along Wang'ai Road while waving his dagger.
Second group: Taxi drivers
With no way out, the bandit was forced to jump into the river.
After running about a hundred meters along Wang'ai Road, the bandit thought he had shaken off those chasing him and stopped to catch his breath. Unexpectedly, when he looked back, the number of pursuers seemed not to have decreased but rather increased, and even taxi drivers had joined in.
"Throw the bag away, you can't escape..." Hearing the shouts from the taxi driver and others, the bandit threw the bag and continued fleeing. As he ran, the bandit noticed more and more people surrounding him. Originally, there were many people eating late-night snacks on Wang'ai Road. After hearing the shouts, they all dropped their chopsticks and rushed out to join the chase.
Upon reaching Xinhé Road, the bandit saw the Zhongtang River ahead and decided to hide in the grass and shrubs by the riverside.
The bandit's actions were spotted by sharp-eyed pedestrians who quickly ran to the riverbank to watch the water surface. After observing for a moment, everyone unanimously agreed that the bandit hadn't swam away and must be hiding in the shrubs.
By this time, the riverbank was already filled with crowds. Some drivers, upon hearing that a bandit was hiding in the shrubs, turned on their car headlights to illuminate the small river to prevent the bandit from escaping underwater under the cover of darkness. Due to the dense vegetation along the riverbank, which stretched over a hundred meters long, and the bandit seemingly being familiar with swimming, it was difficult to locate his hiding spot.
Third group: A melon farmer returning home by boat
The melon farmer assisted the police in finding the bandit.
After receiving the alarm, the police from Baihe Police Station arrived at the scene immediately. But how long was the shrubbery, where exactly was the bandit hiding?
At this moment, Mr. Qian, a melon farmer, was slowly rowing his boat loaded with watermelons home. Seeing the crowd gathered on the shore and the police gesturing to him, Mr. Qian docked his boat. Upon learning that a bandit was hiding in the shrubs, Mr. Qian readily agreed to "borrow his boat to find the person."
Carrying the police officers, Mr. Qian rowed the small boat back and forth on the river. The police used flashlights to shine into the tree clusters and probed around with bamboo poles.
Two hours later, when the police reached a certain patch of grass, they suddenly felt they had touched a soft object. "There, there, don't move, don't move, stop resisting. It's not worth losing your life over such a trivial matter!"
With nowhere to hide, the bandit followed the police's advice, ceased resisting, and surfaced with his hands raised. The police instructed him to grab onto the side of the boat and follow it to the shore, where they promptly arrested him.
News from the police station
The bandit couldn't find work and wanted to snatch some money for travel expenses to go home.
Upon investigation, the bandit was identified as Wang, a 22-year-old from Jiangsu Province. According to his confession, he came to Ningbo in August looking for work to earn money. Not only did he fail to find employment, but he was also scammed out of his last 200 yuan due to trusting a hotel recruitment ad online. With no money left, Wang decided to steal some travel expenses to return home.
On the night of the incident, he wandered aimlessly around Wang'ai Road after taking a bus. Seeing Ye walking with her friend, he instantly developed evil intentions but ultimately fell into the legal net.
Currently, the case is still under further investigation and handling.
