A 48-year-old man surnamed Shi from Gong Family Yard in the Bright Village of Longtou Mountain Town, Ludian County, was quarreled with his wife for stealing and eating an egg. Unexpectedly, this single egg resulted in a bloody case that left one dead and one injured: Shi beat up his wife, and his son who tried to mediate was beaten to death by him.
According to the investigation conducted at the scene by the police officers from Longtou Mountain Police Station of Ludian County Public Security Bureau, on the morning of August 28th, Ms Zhang could not find the eggs she had hidden for hatching chicks. Upon learning that her husband Shi had stolen and eaten them, the couple started to argue. Ms Zhang was then hit by her husband with a pole. Seeing his mother being beaten, Xiao Guo, their 14-year-old son, came over to mediate and was struck on the head by Shi with the pole. Due to the severity of his injuries, Xiao Guo died on August 29th from cranial injuries after unsuccessful rescue attempts.
According to many villagers, Shi was lazy, bad-tempered, often subjected his family to violence over trivial matters, and sometimes behaved abnormally. Last year, his elder son was injured by an axe wielded by him, and later felt unable to stay at home, so he took his wife to work outside.
According to the understanding of the police, Shi exhibited symptoms of intermittent mental illness. Currently, the suspect Shi has been sent to a psychiatric hospital for treatment, and will be dealt with according to law after a psychiatric evaluation is made.
