Yesterday at Guangyi No.1 Hospital, the "amnesic" unnamed man sat on the bed in a daze. A month ago, he was admitted to the hospital after a car accident left him unconscious.
After waking up from the car crash, he didn't know who he was.
Information Times News (Reporter Cai Shenglong) - Just before the Spring Festival, a man in his early 20s was admitted to Guangyi No.1 Hospital after being involved in a car crash that left him unconscious. A week ago, the young man woke up but had no idea who he was or where he lived. The hospital nurse posted a tweet online seeking his family. Yesterday, reporters learned from the hospital that a woman came forward claiming to be his relative, but the young man wasn't the person she was looking for. Doctors said it is still unclear whether the man has intellectual disabilities or suffered amnesia due to the car crash. If no family members come forward, the man will be sent to a psychiatric hospital for evaluation.
Twitter Seeking Clues: "Who Is He?"
On February 15th, a Sina Weibo user named "halo_billy" posted a message that was retweeted nearly 9,000 times. The post stated that on January 22nd, a man was brought to Guangyi No.1 Hospital after a car accident. After waking up, the man could not speak due to brain trauma. Currently, he is under observation in Room 4, Bed 15, on the 16th floor of the hospital's inpatient department. Since there is no way to contact his family, the nurses mentioned that the man is from Hengyang, Hunan Province. The post also included a photo of the man and provided a contact number: 83062733.
Involved in a Car Accident Before Admission
Yesterday afternoon, when reporters met this man at Guangyi No.1 Hospital, he was peeling peanuts and drinking milk. His injured area at the back of his head had grown hair again. On the man's patient card, the name section read "Unknown," and the age was listed as "18 years old."
Dr. Xu from the hospital introduced that on the evening of January 22nd, the man ran into the road and was hit by a bus. Upon admission, he was diagnosed with cerebral contusion and intracranial hematoma. At the time, the man did not have any other belongings, and the police couldn't find any identification documents, making it impossible to contact his family. However, based on his clothing, he didn't seem like a homeless person. A week ago, the man woke up from his coma but had no memory of who he was or where he lived.
Reporters attempted to communicate with him, asking who gave him the peanuts. He pointed to a fellow patient across from him, but his speech was slurred and incomprehensible. Reporters wrote questions such as "What's your name? Where do you live? How old are you?" on a notebook. He pointed at each word and read them out loud, but every word sounded like "you." When asked to write, he used his left hand and scribbled some characters that were unrecognizable. Switching to his right hand, the writing was still indecipherable.
Currently, It’s Only Known That He’s From Hengyang
The only thing currently confirmed is that when asked where he is from, he clearly stated that he is from Hengyang. Some of the hospital orderlies are from Hengyang, Hunan, but they still can't understand most of what he says. Fellow patients in the same room said that the man can basically take care of himself and is willing to communicate with others. After each infusion, he would ring the bell himself to call the nurse; in the morning when making milk, he would ask others if they wanted some. However, he often talks to himself and sometimes sings and dances in the ward. Two recently discharged patients complained that the man would get up and sing loudly at two or three o'clock in the morning, waking up other patients.
Dr. Xu said that because the man's medical history before the injury is unknown, it's unclear whether he has intellectual disabilities or suffered amnesia due to the car crash. A recent brain examination showed no abnormalities. Currently, it's suspected that the man may have mental illness, and if no family members come forward to claim him, he will be sent to a psychiatric hospital for evaluation.
Hospital nurses explained that the man's medical expenses and deposit were covered by the insurance company, and he already owes over 3,000 yuan in medical fees. His meal card also has no money left, but the insurance company hasn't come forward to pay yet. Considering the patient's special circumstances, the hospital will continue to provide medication and food.
