Two American scientists conducted an interesting experiment: they placed five flies and five bees in two glass bottles respectively, then directed the bottom of the bottles towards a light source and the openings towards the dark side. After several hours, the five flies found the exit from the darker end of the bottle and crawled out, while all five bees had crashed to death.
The scientists analyzed that the bees regarded the place with the light source as the only way out, and flew towards the same direction every time. However, the flies did not fixate on that little bit of brightness, and knew to look backward after bumping their heads. The bees and flies, one forward and one backward, revealed the secret to success. If we replace the insects with humans, the same principle applies. Learning to look back when in a predicament, and finding another way out, is a kind of wise life.
Life has highlights, but naturally also has low points, and these often occur in reverse order. Understanding how to look back, modify oneself, adjust one's life, and reposition one's coordinates, allows one to still see blue skies even when the sky ahead is obscured by clouds and loses its color. This is a positive attitude towards life, a way of cherishing life, a support for living, one of the main colors of life, and great wisdom. Looking back and reflecting on the philosophy of life, re-understanding life, and freely facing the noisy and complex world, prevents missing today because of yesterday.
In a textile factory, two forty-year-old women were laid off at the same time, one was an engineer, and the other was a worker. The engineer was angry, shouted, cursed, and could not extricate herself. The female worker, however, quickly moved past the shadow and leveraged her cooking expertise, opening a small hot pot restaurant with the help of relatives and friends. In over a year, she not only paid off her loans but also expanded her business many times over, and now owns a well-known local restaurant.
Life likes to present honor and disgrace, success and failure, gain and loss simultaneously before people, testing one's character. At this moment, it often requires looking back, clearing one's thoughts, having an ordinary heart, learning to calmly say goodbye, avoiding getting lost in dangerous waters or taking extreme actions that harm others and oneself.
In the TV series "The Nine-Year-Old County Magistrate," the female boss of the inn said that anyone in life might have two things they cannot avoid: begging and imprisonment. Many people cannot figure out the mystery behind these words. In fact, she referred to "form and spirit." Some people may not beg in form, but their spirit begs; some may not be imprisoned in form, but their spirit is imprisoned. This kind of mental prison, psychological prison, emotional prison, and spiritual prison, I fear many people have experienced. Not being "imprisoned" signifies maturity in life.
Looking back is not消极回想 (a negative review), but a kind of foresight; not决心回避 (resolute avoidance), but a kind of farewell; not contentment with mediocrity, but role conversion; not smashing the original framework of life, but building a new life within the existing framework. Zhang Guo Lao rode his donkey backwards, saying, "Effort looks back, function moves forward."
The journey of life goes through wind and rain, with footprints deep or shallow, good things often slip through our fingers, sadness and pain link to changes in warmth and coldness, alternating between joy and sorrow. A beautiful past is worth cherishing, but one cannot expect everyone to give you sunshine. Looking back, life is like a play, and oneself is the sole director. Regardless of how regretful the first half of the play was, it cannot be rewritten, and the only choice is to make the second half increasingly perfect.
One person's happiness or sadness can find reflection in another person's experiences; a world's happiness or sadness can find traces in another world's experiences. Objective rules never shift according to human will, finding lessons from past losses, success requires both human effort and following destiny.
A fool says, "A person's luck lies in being in the right place at the right time." The path of life is winding, whether pity or regret, life must continue. Look back, seek truth in time, organize emotions, understand life thoroughly, accurately position oneself, and exchange wisdom and sweat for happiness.
