The Chinese century total solar eclipse will occur on the morning of July 22. The path of totality will pass through the following areas: Tibet Autonomous Region, Yunnan Province, Sichuan Province, Chongqing Municipality, Hubei Province, Hunan Province, Henan Province, Anhui Province, Jiangsu Province, Jiangxi Province, Zhejiang Province, and Shanghai Municipality.

Due to geographical reasons, Dalian area will not be able to witness the total solar eclipse. However, if the weather is clear, we can still observe a partial solar eclipse with the moon covering 75.6% of the sun.

The specific times for the eclipse in Dalian are as follows: the first contact at 8:29:29 AM on July 22 (the moment when the eastern edge of the moon's disk makes external tangency with the western edge of the sun's disk), at which time the sun will begin to be slowly "devoured", with a solar altitude of 41 degrees; the maximum eclipse at 9:39:40 AM (the moment when the sun is most obscured by the moon), with 75.6% of the sun being "eaten", making the sun look like a crescent moon, with a solar altitude of 55 degrees at this time. The last contact at 10:54:33 AM (the instant when the western edge of the moon's disk makes internal tangency with the eastern edge of the sun's disk), at which time the sun will restore its round "smiling face", with a solar altitude of 67 degrees. The partial solar eclipse in the Dalian area will completely end after lasting 2 hours, 25 minutes, and 4 seconds.

The partial solar eclipse will occur in the morning, with the position of the sun very suitable for observation. Observers must be reminded that under no circumstances should you look directly at the sun with your naked eyes during the entire process because the sunlight is very strong and can cause great harm to the eyes, even burning them. Strict light reduction measures must be taken while observing; otherwise, safe observation cannot be achieved.

The best way to observe a partial solar eclipse with the naked eye is to use specialized solar eclipse observation glasses or qualified welder's goggles. You can also use the pinhole imaging method for observation.

Astronomical telescopes are not necessary for observing a partial solar eclipse. It is absolutely forbidden to look directly at the sun through a telescope. Even with added light reduction facilities, one must be extremely cautious. Using a telescope to directly observe during the totality phase is very dangerous.
