The first round of U.S.-China Strategic and Economic Dialogue concluded on the 28th in Washington. Both sides announced that President of the United States, Barack Obama, will visit China later this year upon invitation by Chinese President Hu Jintao. Both China and the U.S. agreed that the first round of dialogue has achieved positive results and laid a foundation for future work.

Both sides positively evaluated the current development of U.S.-China relations, believing that these relations have maintained a strong and positive growth momentum. This dialogue provided an important framework for enhancing bilateral relations based on the April summit between the leaders.

Both sides emphasized that close high-level contacts and exchanges play an irreplaceable role in the development of U.S.-China relations, acknowledged the recent improvement in military-to-military relations, and agreed to expand exchanges at all levels between the two militaries.

During the dialogue, the U.S. side introduced new policies being formulated to expedite visa processing for Chinese citizens, expressing a willingness to maintain close consultations with China on this issue. The Chinese side reiterated its hope that the U.S. would increase visa facilitation for travelers destined to China.

Given the importance of the rule of law to both countries, both sides decided to resume the U.S.-China Legal Experts Dialogue and strive to hold the next round of human rights dialogue before the end of the year.
