In fact, there are many Chinese and Western medicines for treating geriatric diseases, and there are also quite a few folk remedies. However, I have three folk remedies that I've introduced to my friends around me. After being taken by many people, the results were significant. Some people even gave me their family's secret recipes as thanks, but I refused. I am not a doctor, nor do I need any gratitude. Since these three recipes are effective, I'm sharing them here for elderly friends.
1. Treating high blood viscosity:
Folk remedy: One pound of ginger, wash and dry it, slice it thinly (about as thick as an envelope), put it in a large-mouthed bottle; then add half a pound of rock sugar; pour one pound of white vinegar (Note: The white vinegar must be real rice vinegar, don't use fake or additive-filled vinegar. Remember this! Remember!) into the bottle until it covers the ginger slices. Finally, seal the bottle tightly. After 8 days, start consuming.
Consumption method: Every morning on an empty stomach, eat 5-8 slices of ginger (depending on the size of the slices) and drink a small spoonful of vinegar. (Note: Never eat ginger at night. There is a saying in medicine, "Eating ginger in the morning is like eating ginseng, while eating ginger at night is like eating arsenic." The same thing can have different effects depending on the time, processing methods, and the person consuming it. This is the profound wisdom of traditional Chinese medicine. Oops, I went off-topic again!) Eat once a day and finish the entire batch. After finishing, go to the hospital to check your blood. Usually, it will decrease. If it drops within the normal range, you can stop taking it. If it hasn't reached the normal range but has decreased, continue with another batch of one pound of ginger. Ginger is actually a health vegetable. Some people eat ginger on an empty stomach every morning all year round, not only lowering blood viscosity but also preventing colds, killing viruses, promoting blood circulation, and benefiting the body greatly. Additionally, long-term consumption of ginger may cause dry mouth and excessive sweating, which is fine. Just drink a little honey daily.
2. Treating high blood lipids:
Folk remedy: Place one pound of peanuts in a large-mouthed bottle, then add half a pound of vinegar, enough to cover the peanuts. Seal the bottle tightly. After 7 days, begin consuming.
Consumption method: Eat 10-15 peanuts (depending on the size of the peanuts) either before sleeping at night or on an empty stomach in the morning. (Peanuts should ideally be eaten without the skin since the skin has coagulation properties, which are not beneficial for blood circulation. In this recipe, the vinegar neutralizes the adverse effects of the peanut skins, so it's okay to eat them with the skins on.) This recipe lowers blood lipids and aids in weight loss, and can be consumed long-term.
3. Treating high blood sugar:
Folk remedy: Chop one onion (sometimes called a shallot) and place it in a large-mouthed bottle. Pour pure red wine (not fake wine) into the bottle, using a ratio of half onion and half wine based on the bottle's size. Actually, the amount doesn't matter too much, there are no strict requirements. Seal the bottle well and consume after 3 days.
Consumption method: Drink about two ounces of wine and eat the onion at noon and evening each day. When the wine is finished, the onion should also be finished. This remedy needs to be taken continuously for more than six months.
Onions are health vegetables, and red wine is a health drink. Long-term consumption benefits the body without harm. Additionally, this remedy treats joint pain effectively when consumed over a long period.
Lastly, let me reiterate that illness comes like a mountain collapsing, but leaves like silk unraveling. If you have a disease, you need to prepare for a long battle against it. First, none of the three remedies above can cure diseases in just a few days. They require long-term consumption to see results. Meanwhile, our health maintenance is also a long-term task, and the two are not contradictory.
Secondly, when using these remedies, do not reduce the medication you're already taking at first. Gradually reduce the dosage as your condition improves, and eventually rely solely on these remedies. After consolidating for some time, you can stop using this remedy.
Thirdly, change your lifestyle: eat less greasy food, participate more in sports and exercise, maintain a regular schedule, stay in good spirits. Don't treat diseases on one hand while creating new ones on the other. Otherwise, old diseases won't leave, and new ones will come.
