Mr. Luo, the cousin of Ms. Xu, bought a box of Wufangzhai Zongzi named "Yikou Xianrou". The next day, Mr. Luo's wife ate one of the Zongzi during breakfast and detected an unusual odor. Upon careful inspection, she found mold and green spots on the other Zongzi. Immediately after, Mr. Luo's wife felt nauseous and spent the entire day vomiting and having diarrhea.
Food safety issues have increasingly become a hot topic of public concern. As the annual Dragon Boat Festival approaches, Zongzi will once again grace the dining tables of households across the country. Ensuring the safety and reliability of these traditional Zongzi before consumption has become an urgent issue that needs to be resolved.
In the process of seeking an explanation, Mr. Luo received a call from home informing him that his wife might be experiencing a miscarriage. Without waiting for any results, Mr. Luo rushed back home and immediately took his wife to a nearby hospital for examination. After extracting foreign objects from the pregnant woman’s body, the doctor preliminarily diagnosed it as a miscarriage and informed Mr. Luo that in early pregnancy, diarrhea is something that pregnant women must avoid because it significantly increases the risk of miscarriage.
Out of safety concerns, Mr. Luo went home and opened the packaging of five boxes. To his surprise, he discovered that among the five boxes of Wufangzhai Zongzi given as compensation, three had the same issues as the original batch—moldy and spoiled Zongzi emitting unpleasant odors. This discovery made Mr. Luo and his family even more furious. He then brought one of the boxes back to the supermarket to demand an explanation. This time, the supermarket's attitude did a complete 180-degree turn; they refused to acknowledge any quality issues with the Zongzi. According to Mr. Luo's account, a physical altercation occurred while demanding an explanation at the supermarket. The security guards forcibly took away the problematic Zongzi that Mr. Luo had brought. Fortunately, Mr. Luo still had a few moldy Wufangzhai Yikou Xianrou Zongzi preserved at home.
Wufangzhai Zongzi having problems is not a first-time occurrence. As early as last year, there were consumer complaints about Wufangzhai Zongzi being moldy and spoiled. Even some employees who have tasted Wufangzhai products reported feeling unwell, with symptoms such as heavy-heartedness and headaches.
As the Dragon Boat Festival approaches each year, food safety becomes a growing concern for consumers. With the wide variety of Zongzi available in the market, consumers should pay attention to both the quality and expiration dates when making their selections. According to relevant reports, on May 16, Ms. Xu, a resident of Nanjing, complained that her sister-in-law suffered a miscarriage after consuming Wufangzhai Zongzi purchased from a supermarket in Nanjing. Both the supermarket and the manufacturer ignored the incident.
